FS700 raw on the Atomos Shogun??

It's impressive Atomos will be releasing 4k and HD prores (in two flavours) and HD DNxHD on release. Not to mention fs700 RAW decode support after. Will Shogun users have 4k prores before us 7Q users do? lol

Quote me, they will release the 4k prores when the shogun will be released.

If the shogun is capable to decode the FS700, even if I have the odyssey, I will probably looking for. I already have atomos stuff and for the price it's really good quality.

OK, I'll quote you.

;-D

Let's just see how this all times out, shall we?

I'd love to but I doubt it. Just think about all of those bugs that they've never thought of that will emerge after the release. The real beta testing starts when the product is given to customers ;) So many different cameras to support, I know they have a lot of experience but they're entering new territory (ie. RAW, 4K). They'll have a lot of work.

Guys, please read carefully before posting:

Our future proof platform (Powerful Generation 2 Processor, Sata 3 @ 6Gb/s, Large FPGA with upgradability) is designed for the following in the future

12G-SDI 4K 50/60p Support
4:4:4 10bit
3D LUTs
FS700 RAW decode
Full 4K - 4096 x 2160 support

That's what the website says...

No 4k and no RAW support upon release.
UHD and HD in 10bit containers "only" - which is a huge thing too.

To expand upon this (and this is purely speculation on my part) if there is no RAW support, does that imply that they won't be able to process the FS700 RAW to convert it into ProRes?

And UHD/4K recording seems to be limited to 24/25/30 fps at start, too.
Wondering about HDMI 1.4b instead of HDMI 2.0.

Shogun's HDMI port is 1.4b, not 2.0. means NO 4K/UHD 60P signal via HDMI.
however Shogun has SDI will support up to 12G so they might release some "H2S" type of converter for future camera, i think.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at no point does Atomos say they can record 4K compressed from the FS700 - just that they can 'decode' the signal (which is not the same as then compressing it and recording it) - a capability with we already know is coming on to the Odyssey, most probably before the Shogun is even released.

I've been shooting 4K Raw for a while and it is a right ball-ache data wise. In the end you'll be better of with an O7Q as you'll save on data storage.

Does it will support FS700 and also A7S ? (raw)
For clarity, let me note that there is no RAW output from the a7S camera, so therefore there is nothing to support.

For FS700 RAW, I believe Atomos has stated that Shogun will record it in the future, but has not given detail on how, other than a mention of Cinema DNG elsewhere. The Odyssey7Q supported FS700 RAW recording in 4K and 2K from the beginning, and it also supports the use of FS700 RAW to derive other formats with more to come.

i'm long years Atomos gear user but this time we need to be relaxed about Shogun's future update.

i know once they put the word "FS700 raw" and it drives us crazy. however Shogun is not released yet, it's even delayed and i believe it's not related with any of FS700's function.

speaking of the function, Shogun will not have any magnify tool on the monitor. no x4/x8 kinda magnify, nor x1/x2 pixel zoom 7Q has. it has great 1920 wide monitor but we must have some sort of tools we can check the focus especially for 4K shooting.

anyway it's nonsense to compare the product has nothing work with FS700's raw solution right now and the product like 7Q which has almost everything we need.

let the bunch of GH4/a7S user to play with Shogun once it's available.

This was a reply to my comment/question on the Atomos Facebook page:

Atomos Brooke: We are supporting 4K raw from the FS700, Sony approached us a long time ago about this, however it's only recently we have decided to support and the technology for the Shogun is in a great position. I can't go into further details other than you won't be disappointed in a 7Q vs Shogun choice...

..We have the FS700 in the office which is my main camera and I'm also keen to get 4K from it.

What do you mean by "also offer"?

Today, no available system in the market supports 4K ProRes recording from Sony's FS700. We may have a second solution announcing that.

And for clarification, FS700 4K RAW Recording was not supported by Odyssey7Q "from the beginning". It was announced in February. Very lucky to have that option at least.

Sounds like a very promising companion to the FS700 and C500 too, a very sleek design. I always thought the Q7 was clunky for fast moving and rigging on small cameras like the FS/C500s. It's still a great device though, it's just more options is always better for us and the competetion.
