FS700 price drop?

Not likley an authorized Sony dealer for this product. Probably is what we call gray market. Brought into the US from another country and then sold out of the US. Be very careful. Sony price is set at $5999 for brand new A stock product. Product bought from the US that is "gray market" does not receive same warranty protections...

The current strength of the US dollar makes some pricing quite different from 1 year ago. Much closer today when you do exchange of money now.

Currency values is a funny thing.

The norwegian krone has plummeted the last 6 months, making investment in film gear incredibly expensive.

I bought my FS700 at a rate at 6 NOK per dollar. The rate is now 7,4 NOK per dollar, making the camera (or FS7 at $8k) around 2000 dollars more expensive now than 2 years ago (25% increase). This is also why i do not take as such a great hit on the used value if i export to USA for used sale, for example. However, i also need to buy a new camera then, and that has increased in price.

I also bought the Kessler Crane 18 foot crane + accessories while the dollar was very low in 2013, because of the intended savings on currency. Its now roughly 38% more expensive because of the currency value as it is. Even filmmakers can speculate in currency! ;-) Buy when historically low, and gloat when historically even or higher.

And a fun note to the last. My Odyssey 7Q with 4 drives, FS700 option and some accessories = 5100 dollars = 30,600 NOK in february 2014. Now they cost 38,300 NOK. Around 1100 dollars more in less than a year!
