Hi - hoping the hive mind can help me. I just bought a FS700R and have an Atomos Shogun Flame en route to me as I type. Do I need any special kind of SDI cable to connect them together, or will a standard 3G rated SDI work - I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

Hey sorry I don't know the answer, but I had a question. What record options does the Flame support out of the FS700? I'm really wanting to replace my Odyssey but I like having the high speed settings.

Only 24p, 25p, 30p straight to ProRes or DNxHD. I would have liked the high speed options on the Odyssey, but I just couldn't justify the much higher cost (counting the firmware) and for the applications I'm aiming for they're not really necessary. Also, Atomos seem to be being quite aggressive in terms of (free) FW updates on this line and I understand that at least 60p 4K is on the roadmap.

What about RAW to HD? Up to 120fps? Honestly I really hate the Odyssey's screen. I use a SmallHD 502 and (used to) use an Assassin. So much better. I can do without 4K high speed but it would be nice to have at least HD 120fps.

'Fraid not. Again, HD120fps is due in a 2016 FW upgrade, but whether there'll be any facility to translate the FS700's output to utilise that isn't mentioned. I do know that they really bigged it up when they first added the FS700-centric features so I'm expecting them to continue to develop that (especially as, I understand, the FS700 shares a number of characteristics with the FS7 in this regard).

Ah okay. Well as soon as they activate that firmware I'm jumping on it.

I am not sure if the 3g will work. I am using a 6G kabel between the fs700r and my Atomos shogun. If you still have the 3G cable-try it:

A proper 3G-SDI cable should work fine.

The Odyssey7Q+ with the Odyssey RAW Bundle supports all the available outputs of the FS700. It offers an overwhelming range of resolutions, frame rates and SuperSampling. No other device provides this level of support, not even the Sony solution. It also can make ProRes recordings in S-Log2, Rec709A or Rec708A800% (preserves highlights). The Odyssey LUT System includes Exposure Compensation LUTs specifically designed for use with the FS700 camera to help reduce noise.

Here is a list of supported formats.

RAW recording
4K RAW -> 4K RAW 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p
2K RAW -> 2K RAW 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p, 100p, 120p, 200p, 240p

RAW to Apple ProRes (HQ, 422, LT) recording
4K RAW -> 4K ProRes 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p
4K RAW -> UHD ProRes 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p
4K RAW -> SuperSampled 2K ProRes 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, 60p

Hey Mitch

Thanks for the response - I appreciate it and I think that your level of engagement with your customers across social media is exemplary.

My target market for this camera package (sub-low-budget film-makers) don't, I think in general, have a need for more than 24fps in raw/PR. Anything else is a 'nice to have'. I'd love to go down the CD route but I just can't justify the 900 bucks when Atomos are offering me out-of-the-box basic functionality.

Just so you know, it's $200 off that license through the
end of April.
