FS7: FS7 Uninterruptible Battery Plate?

Howdy!

I remember seeing a battery plate for the FS7 that took the place of the Sony XDCA-FS7 Adapter
allowing one to use V-Mount Batteries, however what was different about this particular one was
that it contained a small battery inside allowing the hot-swapping of batteries without losing power.

I'm looking all over for this now and can't find it. Anyone know who makes this??
(Would be great to maintain camera time-code all day without powering down).

Hi Henry!

Nope, that's very interesting, but not it. Thank you though.
Perhaps this one would be even better for shoulder balancing,
but the one that I saw actually attaches to the FS7 body the same way that the
Sony XDCA-FS7 Adapter does using the multi-pin connector at the top and the
two mounting screws... It's specific to the FS7 body.

As far as I recall, Movcam and Tilta make battery plates that attaches at the FS7 back likewise as the XDCA-FS7...

The one from Movcam has a power distributor integrated but not an emergency battery inside as the one you're looking...

I'd be also very interested to find out what else is in the market in that regards

With the camera off/battery removed, time code will be maintained from an internal battery, same as the date/time is.

I bought the Movcam MOV-303-2706 V-Mount battery adaptor/regulator. It's very well built, better than the IDX one and quite lighter. Although I was told my Movcam the adaptor regulates power to the FS7 at 12.5V, power input on my FS7 reads at 12.1V. Until the battery reaches that level or below, the FS7 will show a steady 12.1V in the viewfinder. Some V-Mount battery may die shortly after reaching 12.1V so, I wish there would be a way to adjust the voltage out of the Movcam to say like 12.5V or even 13V so I get a more gradual warning. I have a message out to them to see if an internal adjustment for that.

Why not just thow in a BP-U30 in the FS7 and when the vmount runs out the camera Sony battery will take over?

I do this with the tilta vmount. It's solid and hasn't given me any trouble. In fact I got a second one to convert my steadicam pilot AA to a v-mount:

Also, a recommendation on vmount battery, I love my Kayo Maxtar...it lasts forever and is really affordable:

Here's one that is slightly lower capacity to meet FAA regulations:

+1, ditto. The Tilta allows you to run a BPU in situ. You can access the battery compartment to swap BPU when required with the Tilta in place. Running like this your viewfinder will reflect your V Mount battery level until such time as you pull the V Mount battery. When you pull the V Mount the camera continues to run seamlessly as it swaps over to the internal BPU and your viewfinder will now reflect your battery remaining life in minutes as per usual with BPU batteries. The minute you replace or switch your V Mount battery back on the BPU battery indicator will swap back to reflect the voltage of your external source. I've run all day like this without any issues. Plus if you wish to quickly dismount from a tripod and have a smaller more nimble kit to run around with just pull the V Mount and you are still running. With the Tilta it has a switch on it to turn the power on/off to the camera. You can use that if you wish when doing the external/internal hot-swap but I have discovered you can just reef the V Mount off the camera and bang another one seamlessly as far as continuous recording goes.

I know what you are referring to when you mention a battery plate with an internal battery back-up for hot swaps. I had a good look at what it offered but it didn't seem to offer any more than was offered by running a BPU in situ. A practice I've always followed even when shooting mains powered. Saved my bacon one day. I was well into a long shoot when I suddenly realized my VF had switched to BPU time indicator. I looked around when I had the chance and sure enough someone had switched off the wall powerpoint. If I find the battery back up plate you are referring to I'll post a link to it.

New SHAPE swing-away model allows the same workflow but with easier access to the BPU slot. Comes with a 19.5 volt DC/DC converter for FX9 but you could just use a normal D Tap to Sony EX/FS/FX plug cable.
