FS5: Fs5 ND shared on other cameras?

Hello folks. Has anyone heard if sony plans to add the new ND system they premiered on the fs5 to any other sony cameras? Possibly rumors of leasing the tech out to other companies?

It is probably too soon to ask as it has been such a small time in market but i figured someone might know as sony is often a company to move on quickly (minus the no new cine cams at nab).

Any fs5 owners feel the new system is a big step up from traditional nd filters and filter wheels and they should put it on all their future cameras?

I'm sure we'll see a variable ND filter on future Sony cameras because it is one of the best technological advancements in years. My only suggestion to improve it is to make the minimum amount 1-stop or clear. Then it would be nearly perfect.

What is the minimum amount right now on the FS5? I thought it had a clear setting??

+1

Having clear would eliminate any need for the tradition ND. Don't know why they didnt just leave the variable with a clear setting..

The PXW-X180 and PXW-X160 have variable ND.

Yep. People often seem to forget that Sony actually introduced the variable ND on those two camcorders - before the FS5. I think it is a safe bet that many new Sony cams from now on will have this feature and it is certainly one I love on my FS5. It is brilliant.

Because of the way (I understand) it works, Sony still needed to have a separate clear glass optic in the ND system...but who knows they may learn to minimise light loss from the electronically activated liquid crystal ND lens in the future, which currently has a 2 stop minimum.

I didn't know these two cameras started it. Quite interesting, thanks for the insight.

Anyone think there is a need for a variable nd that can have a clear setting as well as the rest to come equipped on a dslr or mirrorless camera?

I'd find that awesome so i could leave the Lee's and polarizers are home. Granted it would make it a much more pricey camera but on something like the future a7r3 where they need to keep the trend of adding improvements people would lust after; i can see it being a big plus one against the competition.

That would have been a big move for the fs7 and maybe even would have converted more canon c users back then.

So they say "three to eight stops of filtration" on the Genus contraption. That is a deal breaker for me. I find the two stop minimum on the FS5 to already be a pain in the butt. Three stops is just way too much.
