FS100 and FCPX loss of quality?

So does anyone know once you import the files directly into FCP is there loss of quality from the original mts file witch looks amazing? Because clipwrap degrades the file once you transcode to prores or rewrap to h.264 and zooms in the picture a bit I hate clipwrap! So before I buy a fs100 I want to know if A you can import directly from the CF card to FCPX? and will FCPX keep the files look ing good once FCP transcodes them? adobe is not an option for me by the way lol.. thanks to all in advance =)

I just imported two short films into FCP 7 no problem using the FCP log and transfer function. I've avoided FCPX but I'm assuming it would also have the log and transfer. Picture was full res and looked great, only disadvantage is you need the camera to read the files.

You have to transcode no matter what in FCPX. To transcode to H264 is bad news. ProRes is much better. Don't use less than proxy and it should be pretty close to your originals. Not sure why you're having issues with Clipwrap. FCPX can only transcode to ProRes 4:2:2. You can import other versions of ProRes by using Clipwrap and when importing to FCPX, choose not to optimize. The different versions of ProRes can be read about here:

You can import the files directly from the SDHC card reader in to FCPX without any transcoding. FCP X (and Premiere Pro 5.5) supports the AVCHD(NXCAM) camera files natively (unlike FCP 7). I recommend copying the entire folder structure from the card reader to a hard drive. Then rename the folder named "private" to something more appropriate to keep things organized. Then proceed with your import. Your files should look identical. No transcoding needed.

While this is true, you can import and edit without transcoding (just select to not optimize when importing) You will have to just render out at the end. However, any complex editing with multiple layers, text, and linked motion files, made my machine pretty useless. So if your system can handle it, go for it :)

Ummmmm....... my tests show this statment to be incorrect
Try this;
use Clipwrap to re-wrap into h.264
injest the camera orignals into Vegas
injest the rewrapped h.264 into Vegas
Diffrence key set to 1%

you will see absolutly no diffrence... and nor should you as the media's header is changed, the media itself is not.

Why do you say that ClipWrap changed the media, and how did you come to this conclusion? Do you have any tests to show?

FS100 (.MTS) files doesn't Require transcode in FCP X,Copy complete AVCHD folder,create archive .
you have the option of using FCP X transcoder (if you check this box import takes more time) otherwise its quick

so if I unclick optimize media my machine wont handle it or should I keep it clicked for optimized media what is your opinion?

I am using macbook air i7,4gb ram, my machine had no poblem in handling both cases i.e check or unchecked..I usually transcode,didn't notice any loss of quality as of now,ofcourse i didn't blown up

That's your call. If you want to edit in ProRes than click it on to make optimized media. It will make a copy of the original MTS files on your hard drive too. Or edit in native AVCHD and do not optimize. Or optimize using something like Clipwrap and simply import the new footage without optimization checked.
