Basically, I want to see if I can get this camera into some ones hands that has always dreamed of owning a RED camera. Whether you're interested in fixing/ restoring it with a new sensor or you're a student that could get a ton of experience out of simply learning how to use a RED One MX. This camera might be a perfect fit for you!
In short, this Red One MX camera has "laser damage" to the sensor which makes the picture unusable "professionally speaking." Basically, there is an apparent green line down the right middle of the image and some other minor weird artifacts. So not something I would want to use on any paid or serious projects! However, that doesn't mean you can't shoot with it, grade the files, etc. You'll just have a green line down the right third of your image ;-)
In addition, the camera could at least teach you how to use a RED One MX camera and understand the RAW format in post. So I would love to see a student get this camera, but I simply can not afford to donate it. Need to try and get some more funds back!
On the plus side - the camera is in wonderful shape (compliments to the original owner!) and runs great. I actually wish I could put my BT Red One MX sensor into this camera, as it has a much nicer, clean looking overall body and the fan runs well and so do all of the ports. The camera actually comes with a side CF card module and the standard RED PL mount. But no media, batteries, or anything else is included.
If some one wants to put a new sensor in this camera they can certainly have a great working RED MX camera for relatively cheap. But if you're not interested in investing $5k to replace the sensor you can always strip it of its good working parts and keep it around in case your current RED body starts to wear down. RED said it has stocked up on spare parts, but who knows how long that will last… So this might be a nice little investment for the ultra techie type (unfortunately I'm not one of those!)
I have a couple local offers already on the table from people who are interested in getting this baby a new sensor and becoming a first time RED owner. But I figured I would test the waters here and see if some one on here is interested as well
Regardless, please remember that this camera is being sold/ traded in its damaged condition which should not be used in a professional setting!
Looking for $1,500 OBO (trades possible too)
