I'm pretty sure the funds were sent immediately. www.escrow.com. you can read up on it there. for big purchases and sells, this seems to be the most reliable/safest route.
 
I don't believe there is a limit. You can sell real estate on there. You will be charged a fee however. Escrow allows you to: A) Pay for all of the fee B) Buyer pays for fee C) Split the fee. Same applies for shipping. I'm pretty sure for a $3000 sell/purchase, its going to be $100 fee. Its best to split this. You enter in a shipping packing you print out from escrow (i think), if the buyer backs out, they then select to ship back and enter that number. Escrow will keep the money until you receive the product. Its been awhile since i bought my that way, but everything is pretty clear and straight forward, unlike my explanation.

read the guidelines. After that, during the transaction, there is a step by step process you and buyer must follow.

Very simple once it starts.
