as a way of providing more infomation about me and my camera,

i have an extensive ebay history of 100+ transactions with a 100% perfect feedback so i am comfortable selling an expensive/quality pro videocamera over the web.

i also have extensive feedback history on audiogon.com (high end audio gear) with a 100% perfect feedback

i'm open to best offers but lets please be real: in every transaction there is a seller's price as reflected above, there is also a buyer's price which might be what u can afford. and then there is the marketplace price. of course, there is always some wiggle room but i'm not going to get as much as i want and the buyer of this hvx200 is probably going to end up spending a wee bit more than they expected.

but what they are getting is a wonderful production tool at a steep discount to buying new.

if u have any questions, please email.

be well

Rob just in case you aren't aware of the current rebate program. Panasonic is offering a free 8GB card with the purchase of a new HVX so that is an $1100 added value. You can now buy a brand new camera from an authorized dealer for $4995 so if you take off the value of the free card, that means you are paying $3895 for a brand new camera. Your steep discount now becomes a slight incline as compared to buying new.

thanks for your interest in the hvx200.

the camera was indeed purchased before october 2006. i do have the original b&h receipt.

as to the p2 card rebate: when the camera was purchased in feb 2006 from b&h here in nyc, i never purchased any p2 cards. the rental price for p2 in the nyc metro area is $15/day, $20/weekend. when i bought the camera, i was looking for a reasonably cost efficient way to create a workflow for me. when the project fell thru, buying a p2 card made little sense.

the reason panasonic is now "giving away" an 8gig p2 card is because larger sized cards will soon be coming out (16gig/32gig). panasonic knows the 4gig and 8gig cards will drop way way down in price. if they "give away" an 8gig they can make the hvx200 feel like a deal.

i'm asking $4500 or your best offer because there is no p2. i know in these transactions there is a seller's price which i what i hope for. i also know that there is a buyer's price which is what u are willing to spend out of pocket. and there is the marketplace price which on this board and others along w/ebay is something south of $4500 and something north of $4000, to suggets u can take the retail price of a 8gig p2 card and subtract that from the lowest web retailer u can find is slightly disingenuous. for a new hvx200 u still have to bring another $1k cash to the table. you purchase my mint-no hours-hvx200 your cash outlay will be 20% less than new and to some that could well make the difference in being able to purchase a "new" hvx200.

thoughts?

again, thanks for your interest.

be well

I think the point that is trying to be made is... one can buy a new hvx for about 5000, they get the free 8 gig card which, at this point in time could be resold for about 1000 making the actual price of a new hvx about 4000. It's kind of depressing. I wish I would have waited.

I guess the point was that to pay even $4000 for a camera that is nearly a year old and then pay another $1100 for an 8gb card, would put you over $5000. So for that much you could purchase a new one from an authorized US dealer. (not the lowest web dealer)

As you say, there is what you would ask or like to get. Then there is what someone is willing to pay.

ozduc-

the reality of using the hvx200 is not centered on using a single 8gjg p2 card to shoot. the hvx200 workflow demands access to more than a single card which is why i was more than willing to go the p2 rental route. after panasonic floods new buyers w/8gig p2 cards, prices on all 4gig and 8gig p2 cards will fall. so to suggest that $1100 should come off the top of any hvx200 is again, not truly comparing apples to apples but rather a negotiating ploy.

as to whether the hvx200 still has value after being on the market for less than 12 months, well panasonic has made no mention of an update and instead is looking to fill out it's p2 line of cameras. that action is furthering panasonic's committment to p2 and their hd dvcpro codec. all of that only means the hvx200 as a tool for storytellers has many more years and many more stories to tell.

if my project has not fallen thru, i would not be selling this camera. the hvx200 is remarkable in so many ways. it just didn't work out for me.

perhaps a mint-zero hours-hvx200 for 20% less cash than a brand new hvx200 will work for another film-maker in our community. i'm sure there are plenty of film-makers who would welcome the opportunity to have access to this caliber of tool.

Dude--you might have better luck on ebay because the users here have a pretty good idea on the worth of HVX200's in the current market. The bottom line is if someone wants to buy an HVX + two 8 GB cards the cost would be about $5200+$1100=$6300 from a dealer vs. your $4500+$1100+$1100=$6700. Why would anyone waste their time trying to negotiate you down to dealer price? As long as the Panasonic free 8 GB card deal is in effect --ALL used HVX200s are worth exactly $1100 less (or the current value of an 8 GB P2 card). Pretty simple, really.

barry s-

i appreciate your thinking and it is pretty simple, dude.

but not everyone has access to that extra $2100 to get stared with a hvx200 rig

($6300 that u quoted its going to take to get a new hvx200 and 2 8gig p2 cards minus my selling price of say, $4200 = $2100)

i did mention in the original posting that the $4500 was obo-or best offer-so perhaps someone gets a mint camera w/no hours but needs to pony up say, $4200, not the $6300 u suggested. of course, that person still needs a workflow but perhaps they can go from the hvx200 straight to their laptop or they rather rent p2 cards rather than to buy. the difference of $6300 - $4200 = $2100 or nearly 33% less cash up front.

though your thoughtful suggestion of ebay is much appreciated, i wanted to offer my hvx200 to a community of film-makers that relies upon each other for a level of committment to what is being offered for sale. frankly, i would like the camera to get into the hands of someone from dvxuser or dvinfo rather than ebay so that the buyer would know i was an email away even after the transaction was completed. we all know the mixed feeling of thrill & terror when buying a major piece of hardware such as a hvx200. by keeping the hvx200 w/in the tribe then i'd feel better and so would the purchaser. isn't that why we post here? because we are a community.

and there you have my simple thinking, dude.

Rob,

Don't feel Discouraged, I sold a 4GB p2 card on these Forums, for $400.00. I had people like you have above, complaining about the price. If they don't agree with the price, then they need to move on to another thread. I had some guy saying I'll never sell it for 400.00 excluding shipping, he threw a little fit. Two Days later, a kind gentleman sent me the money VIA paypal.

Good Luck!

allen, ironically you're making the case for the other people posting and contrary to Rob's position. In my world you don't get to program the traffic lights. The ability to sell the card independantly factors into the negotiating. I don't think anyone's giving rob a hard time and I appreciate him wanting to keep it in the tribe..... but the reality is if you were to buy a new hvx200 for 5000 today and get the free 8 gig card, you can turn around and sell it for about 1000, meaning that your total cash outlay is $4000 and you have a full warranty and dealer support, plus the other hvx rebate stuff, like the book, battery, etc.
Just a thought Rob. I don't think anyone has malice in mind here. Your price is high, that's all. So like super positive salesman allen said, don't be discouraged, be encouraged man, and just lower the price. Or don't. Sounds like you're pretty adamant. Either way, good luck with it.

Yeah. Wait until the rebate is over. On January 1st the rebate ends, prices go back to normal and everything is once again right with the world (for people selling used HVX200s).

Rob makes a good point. A lot of people don't have the available funds just sitting around. If you're saving up to buy the camera at $5,200 and you only have $4,200 saved, do you wait another X amount of time until you pinch away $1,000 or do you buy his HVX200 now and shoot a few projects while you continue to save up to buy a P2 card? That extra $1000 can rent you a fleet of P2 cards. Then by the time you're ready to buy a P2 the prices might have come down.

Here is one big thing that I don't think I've seen mentioned. People are assuming that once the larger P2 cards come out that the prices are going to drop on the current 4 and 8 gig cards. But what if they don't drop. P2 cards are only made by Panasonic. There is no competition like there is for SD and CompactFlash cards. It is possible that Panasonic could come out with the larger cards and just charge more. When Lexus comes out with a new LS the prices don't drop on the GS or IS models.

But P2 prices HAVE fallen when larger cards have become available. Of course Panasonic could decide not to drop prices, but they haven't in the past and hopefully for consumers, they'll choose to lower prices as they always have done.

Rob,

I think Stormfactory has a big mouth. I don't see the point on flaming someones classified thread for no reason. The guys selling a Brand new HVX200 0 hours. I am sure hed take around $4300.00 as a best offer. Now how much are you saving? The 8gb rebate from panasonic is sweet but I am sure there are people on DVXuser that can get free p2 cards. My friend has done a lot of work with Panasonic he has gotten a free HVX200 to test out do a small online review also not to mention a free 4 gb card this was months ago.

So go figure BH photo new is
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=381410&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

I am pretty sure your still getting a deal. I mean you can get 8gb cards for $600.00 easily

Loop - I wasn't flaming Rob. If you took the time to read what I said instead of being bitter from another thread you'd realize that I agreed with Rob about people buying his camera now with available cash instead of paying the higher price and waiting for the rebate. I'll just write off your personal attack as I take no value in anything you post on here being that you've already had a "questionable" sale on this board. So whatever, dude.
