any ideas what to do? while connected to ac power and battery, i get no screen..or a weak?? screen ( bluish, like sthere is some signal but not enough?) the status and charge light are on.

TIA

Not sure if this is the case with yours, but I was directing a shoot where the DP was using one of these, and ours was having all sorts of problems as a result of 'dirty' power. Changed the power supply to a different outlet on a different circuit, and everything was better. Ours would intermittently stop recording in the middle of a take before we tried a different outlet & circuit.

What colors are each light, how strong is the brightness of the lights?
The lights are strong, both green.

here is some correspondence regarding this issue. the email I received back from Focus, was so quick, makes me think this is a pretty common problem.

Subject: FS-100 won't power up

Hello Technical Support:

My FS-100 unit does not power up properly anymore. I get a green status and charge light, but when I press power, the home screen does not appear. I do see a slight change of the lcd, like to a bluish tone, but I cannot read anything on it. It hasn't been dropped or knocked around viciously, that I know of. :) thanks

Repair

1. Ensure unit is powered off.

2. On the FS keypad, press and HOLD the OFF button.

3. Press the POWER ON button, and continue to hold BOTH buttons down for about 2 seconds AFTER the Blue LCD display appears indicating that the unit is powering up.

4. Release the POWER ON button (do NOT release the OFF button, continue to hold that down).

5. When a Splash Screen appears on the FS LCD screen “indicating FS model information”, then release the OFF button before the unit powers down.

6. If the unit powers down, then repeat steps 1 through 5 - but release the OFF button sooner on the next power up attempt.

7. If the main menu screen on the FS appears, then the boot from BIOS was successful. Go to step 8. If no screen appears after 1 minute, then try again. If no screen appears after three attempts, then the BIOS load was not successful.

8. Press the right arrow until you get to the UTILITIES menu.

9. In the UTILITIES menu, press the DOWN arrow until you arrive at selection REPAIR DISK.

10. Press the Right Arrow to select, and press the button for YES when the “PRESS YES TO REPAIR DISK” screen appears.

11. If the disk repair fails, then we recommend connecting the unit in HDD Mode to an external PC device, and running Windows Scandisk to repair the drive.

12. After running Scandisk, run a FORMAT DISK from the FS UTILITIES menu.

13. Now go back to the UTILITIES screen and do a “SYSTEM RESET”.

I've been trying this and am making some progress, but I think it best to have them look at it. Scandisk? oh brother.
