Hi folks,

i recently bought Hvx200 and Fs-100 unit . i was planning to shoot in HD and edit in FCP but what i didnt know is that i was in for a bad surprise. today i bought 6 pin to 6pin firewire 1394 cable and plug into Fs-100 Computer I/O port and other end to the MAC port. nothing happened i know for sure that firewire port is working ,i tried 2 seperate 6 pin t 6pin firewire cables so i am pretty sure cables are ok. so we got only 2 options left. either i am doing something terrible wrong with the setting on FS-100 or my Computer I/O port on the Fs-100 is not working. and if latter the case it is really sad because i just bought it 3 days ago. i did everythying the manual says to mount it to mac i did the initial setup word to word. so i am a bit lost!! any ideas? suggestions?

Mert

Ps : bythe way this is my first post ,and this is a great community, i really feel a bit sad to welcome you all with a error i had. i hope my future posts will be positive :) and english is not my native tongue so forgive me for my spelling and grammer problems.

So, trace your steps in the set up of your FS-100 so we can tell you if you did it right.

Which Mac and which OS?

ok here is the trace,

1 - i first start the fs-100 unit
2 - i connect the fs-100 unit to mac through 6 to 6 pin firewire cable
3 - i get in to the dd drive menu and enable bypass but everytime i tried it ends with a message "Failed"

i also tired with out the bypass thingy and according to the manual when i connect the fs-100 to mac the drive must appear as a external Hard Disc but instead it is as if like nothing is connected to the port. nothing! so more or less thats what i did with the setup.

I mac dual core intel 2.0 ghz and 2 gb ram my os version mac os x 10.4

Try doing a system reset on the FS-100.

OS X 10.4 doesn't tell us anyting since there are now 10 revisions of OS X 10.4.

Make certain you are at 10.4.10. Restart Mac. Reset PRAM in Mac.

Could be anything from FS-100 needing reset to Mac firewire port being hung up to a potential physical problem with the FS-100.

nope, no luck at all.

i tried everything from PRAM reset to changing cables and switching setups. but nothing happens. so i concluded that my FS-100 Computer I/O port is damaged because there is nothign left to try , i changed everything other than FS-100 unit. i just bought the unit 3 days ago and its not working. shame on the QA of focus. anyway thanks folks for your suggestions.

Ps : my os version 10.4.10 by the way.

I',m afraid you might be right since you have been doing everything correctly, from most recent OS to all of the resets. Sorry. Was hoping it could have been something as simple as new-user error.
