FS-100 Settings (Newbie)

Has anyone else found the "tutorial" that comes with the FS-100 to be utterly useless? I found a guide on the FE website, but I'm not sure if recorded or not, and that was when i hit the REC button on the FS-100 not my HVX200.

Any help?

Just my first steps in the great big scary HD world.

The FS-100 quickstart guide is far from useless, it's actually very helpful. I advise people to skip the owner's manual completely and just follow the instructions in the quickstart guide.

Heres what I did ...I wanted to shoot in 720p @ 60fps on an hvx200. HDD mode DVCPROHD, then in the function menu I choose SYNC and in Control you can choose TAPELESS or SYNCROSCAN. Then hook your camera up via firewire to the dv port of the FS100. Then hit the SYNC button on the Homescreen. ( This should auto recognize the fps you are shooting at) after that hit the record button on your camera or the record button on the FS100. (the time code should start moving) after that you can do playback just by hitting the play button after you have changed the HVX200 to VCR mode and you have to hit the thumbnail button on the top of the camera. When you are ready to import the footage you must go into the menu and under Utilities hit organize p2 after that hook it up to your computer(make sure you are plugged into the right port on the FS100) I use FCP So I go to FILE>IMPORT> PANASONIC P2 ...I hope this helps somebody.

Yeah good stuff thanks for the help, I'll be at it this morning so I'll post results later in the day. For whatever reason it records just fine but ONLY if I hit record on the FS-100. Nothing happens if i hit record on the HVX200.

Well I filmed, captured, and editing in FCP. HD is so amazing, and all I filmed at was 720p30. Still looks unbelieveable, so of course I am curious about 1080i. But for the FS-100 sake and for my client, 720p seems the best fit.

Anyways ... still haven't figured out how to get the thing recording via the camera record button, but the FS-100 record button does the trick.

Try pressing the hot button under the word tape. it will put an 'E' next to the record pause indicator.
