I want to be able to shoot DVCPro50 with by firestore. The instrutons say I must be at 480 60i. What is the impact of that as compared to 720 30p. IE visually what will some see

DVCPro 50 = SD; 720p30 = HD

DVCPro 50 = SD; 720p30 = HD

DVCPro 50 is the high end version of the Standard Definition DVCPro codec. Being that is standard definition it will be 480 60i. I'm not sure if its 4:1:1 or 4:2:2 though. Even if recording to the steady state options, if it downgrades to 4:1:1 for SD, then you'll see a color quality loss. However if it holds at 4:2:2 you should get some really nice SD images. I have always loved DVCPro 50 for SD.

720p30 is high definition. So the immediate difference there is that you get much more resolution and detail to your image. It will look better because it gives you so much more. Also you get some future proofing in that its HD. Down-resing it for a final SD delivery is fine, you'll get a darn nice looking SD final product going that route.

cheers.
