FS-100 Data Compression

I was looking at the specs for the FS-100. It appears that DVCPRO HD is compressed at 6.7:1. This seems rather signifcant. Will data from P2 (if transferred over 1394) be compressed in the same manner?

Thanks.

That is not the Firestore that is adding compression, that is the compressoin ratio for the DVCPRO HD codec. The DVCPRo HD codec going to P2, tape, cineporter, or firestore will have that much compression.

just to be clear, this camera compresses what the CCDs capture 6:1 when saving to DVCPRO HD which ever the support media.
1) Is that the best (least) compression available on this camera? Is there a way to capture at lower/no compression? (understanding that would take HUGE bandwith/storage needs)
2) Is that the same compression when saving DVCPro (on other cameras) to tape?
3) That is the same compression than when we shoot to P2 using DVCPro HD format.
4) Does anyone know the compression on DV tape?

1) Not recording to anything internally on the camera, unless Andomeda comes out with a version for the HVX tapping into the power of the CCDs. I bet the component outputs of the camera are uncompressed (precompression) so that if you wanted to, you could hook up the component outputs of the camera and record straight to D5 tape. This usually is not practical.

2) The DVCPRO HD codec in the HVX is the same that's is in the Varicam and recorded to tape. the DV50 codec is the same that's in the SDX900 and recorded to tape. the DV codec is the same that's in all dv cameras.

3) Yes, that is the compression for the DVCPRO HD codec which is recorded to any format that accepts it (tape, P2, hard drive)

4) 5:1
