Front Dial Not Working Properly - anyone else have this problem?

My camera has a strange quirk in that I can't seem to use the front dial/button to switch between shutter and aperture settings in Creative Movie Mode. I'm in the M, full manual setting, and it's stuck on the shutter setting - pushing the button does nothing. Now, if I set my LVF/LCD Auto setting to ON then I can go into my EXPOSURE SETTINGS and choose to SWITCH BY PRESSING THE LVF/LCD BUTTON. This is all in the CUSTOM MENU. If my LVF/LCD Auto setting is OFF then the EXPOSURE SETTINGS goes grey and I can't even access it. Trouble is, I HATE leaving the LVF/LCD in Auto mode as every time my hand brushes past the sensor the image switches from the LCD screen to the VF. Annoying! And even if I leave it ON I still can't choose to use the Front Dial to Switch from shutter to aperture. What's going on??

...I can go into my EXPOSURE SETTINGS and choose to SWITCH BY PRESSING THE LVF/LCD BUTTON. ....

You went into the CUSTOM MENU, chose EXPOSURE SETTINGS, set it to SWITCH BY PRESSING THE LVF/LCD BUTTTON. Sounds like you just answered your own question.

Simply switch the EXPOSURE SETTINGS back to the front dial/button, which is the default and really what it's there for. Using the LCD/LVF button to switch between shutter speed and aperture is just plain bizarre to me...but I guess it's there for a reason.

You should still be able to switch the LCD/LVF AUTO to off, unless your camera is defective, or I misread your post. It annoys me too when shooting video...so I turn it off as well...but I turn it back on when shooting photos...for chimping.

Good luck!

First of all, in order to even get into the Exposure Settings (meaning it's 'clickable' in the menu) I need to turn
the LCD/LVF Auto to ON. I have no idea why this is and the only reason I figured it out was because I did a quick
side-by-side comparison of menu settings to a properly working GH1 and found this anomaly on my camera.

So I get into the Exposure Settings menu and choose "SWITCH BY PRESSING THE FRONT DIAL" and I select
that but it does not work. It's like it's not "taking" the selection. If I choose "SWITCH BY PRESSING THE LVF/LCD
BUTTON" that works.

I can turn LCD/LVF Auto to OFF but then I am unable to use the LCD/LVF Button to switch between aperture
and shutter speed.

I did figure out that I can use the Quick Menu button on the top of the camera and then with the aperture already
selected I can use the Top/Down arrow buttons to change the aperture. But that is a totally convoluted was of
working. Reminds me of my first experience with the Canon 5D - and I didn't like it.

I am starting to think that the "button" functionality of my front dial is not working.
