From Computer Back to P2?

I need to transport a DVCPRO50 master to a dub facility and I was wondering if there's a quick way to throw my edited master back to the P2 card.

Anyone know how to do this?

Ahh...

Ahh...

Don't think the P2 Media cards are really meant for that, but...

The P2 Media card is essentially just a very sophisticated and expensive flash memory hard drive. So if you mount a blank one onto your desktop you can treat it as such. Drag your data file (Quicktime movie of your finished project) onto the mounted P2 card and there you have it. Take the card and reader (whether a P2 reader or the camera) over to the post facility and unload the data file onto their local system. They can then go to their own inhouse NLE and output to a master tape which they can then inturn use to dub to whatever you need. Not what I'd consider the most desirable way to deliver it, but if you're in a bind...

Will this all play nice with the card? No clue, and personally no desire to experiment and find out. So good luck with that. :)

cheers.

I should have been more clear. I don't want to use the P2 card as a harddrive. I want to be able to drag my edited master back to the P2 card so I can play it out of the HVX into another deck. Is that possible?

I'm on a Macintosh.

For me that is using the P2 as a hard drive, isn't it? :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Seriously:

That's what I do with a hard drive when I have to transport projects to transfer house.

Could it be your need?

Here what I do:

Export my time line in whatever codec the transfer house needs (DVCPro50, Canopus, QT, etc.), archive a copy of the export in my portable HD and in the transfer house, they put the file in the editor's time line and export to tape or whatever I need.

I did a digital cut (aka print to video) from xpress pro HD and there was no sound...any ideas..?

Umm.... I don't consider using that as being a harddrive because I need the HVX to play the clip. I live in NOWHEREVILLE Oklahoma and we simply don't have big, expensive post houses out here. No one within 100 miles has the capability of dubbing DVCPro 50. This is a small project and I can't afford to mail it off. I'd prefer to avoid downconverting it to standard DV if I can.

Barry... can I record it back to the card with the DVCPro 50 codec?

Yes, you can record back to the card with DVCPRO 50.

Basically, you put the HVX into "Dub" mode (one of the VTR modes) and use the HVX as a firewire deck. Make sure to set the recording format to DVCPRO 50 (in camera mode), then when you're in Dub mode, choose the HVX as your external A/V output in FCP.
