from 60i to 24pa

i was videoing a wedding on friday with my dvx 100a and had to go tend to something for a few minutes. i left my helper in charge of the camera and told him not to change any settings. well when i got back i did not realize it right away but he changed the scene file from 60i to 24pa and changed the shutter speed as well.

in post can i put everything on a 60i timeline and not worry about interlacing or should i put everything on a 24p timeline? what exactly am i in for?

You can edit 24pA on a 29.97 time line as long as you don't remove the pull-down. It's going to look a little funky, since it will be a drastic difference from the 60i footage. To put the 60i footage on a 24p time line is going to create more issues than the other way.

I'd have a very firm conversation with your "helper" about what happened.

1) What are you editing in?

2) What do you want the footage to look like? Like 60i (video, "live")? Or like 24p (filmic)?

Well, you aren't going to get the 24p stuff to look live. But with clever editing, you may be able to give it a motivation to look different in the video.

But to minimize any possible motion issues with the 24pA pulldown cadence, I'd put it all in a 24p sequence and export it as NTSC DV, then use THOSE files to edit. That way, the resulting files will have a 2:3 pulldown cadence instead of a 2:3:3:2 cadence and the motion will be smoother.

are you talking bout just the 24pa files or 24pa & 60i files?

if i decide to give it the filn look what should i do?

i`m still kinda new at this and i`m just trying to weigh my options. (go with whats easier for me)

Just the 24pA files.

If you want it all to be film look, put everything in a 24p sequence and render as 24p.

sorry about this, but i think i want to try it this way cause the video is not that smooth when putting everything on a 24p timeline. so i`m exporting in premiere pro with adobe encoder preset ntsc high quality setting. now when i`m done do i edit on a 60i or 24p timeline.
