Hi guys. Just finished uploading a video my roommate and I entered into our University's film competition. He wrote the script and directed it. I shot and edited it. Creative criticism is much appreciated.

Right off the bat though, I will admit that I'm disappointed with the mic we used for the voiceover. Should have used a condenser instead because I think this one sounds too "mic-ey".

Anyway, enjoy.

Tech specs:
Shot on T2i in Netural with Bloom's profile settings
No extra lighting - used what was around.
Lenses: Canon 50mm 1.8 (flipped it for the macro shots) and Canon 17-85mm for the wider shots.
Q-Scale was -12 (might have been -14, can't remember)
Logged to ProRes LT in FCP and graded with Looks version 1
On-board mic for the non-voiceover audio

cool video, i really dug the macro shots! can you please go into a little detail for me on how you flipped the 50mm for macro?

ok..second things first. yeah the mic sounded kinda crappy but it seemed more like bad placement than sonic ability. and first things second, it is a brilliant script. Love it. I was more engaged by that than the 'LOOK', although i did find the eye tool kinda disturbing. almost gynocological.

easy: take off the lens, flip it around, hold it up to the camera with your spare hand, and have fun trying to focus.

i'm almost 100% sure that the sound we got is typical of a dynamic stage mic. but you could be right ...

glad you liked the script, not everyone vibes with the weird social commentary my roommate pumps out.

what specifically bothers you about the look though?

oh dont get me wrong. nothing bothered me about it. it "serves the story". Im jsut saying that my visceral reaction to watching the piece is that i was more caught up in what was going on than in the details of how it was shot. which ultimately is a good thing. there are so many ways to shoot things that i am rarely critical of the artistic decisions made by a production team as long as it keeps me in the story.
