I'm working on a short fishing documentary, here are some shots I edited out as a trailer.
Shot on the Canon XH-A1.
Do comment and critic the shooting style/editing, etc.
Do "heart" my video if you like it :P

You've got some really nice shots in there, they seem to cover a lot of what might go on at an event like this, however, I would shorten it. This seems like a rather long trailer considering it's for a short documentary. And I don't even mean shorten it down to like 2 minutes, I would just take out some shots that are almost repeats, which there weren't many of.

Other little things that bothered me were the rack focus shots in the beginning - don't get me wrong, rack focus shots look awesome, but I would have spread them out more instead of having them all within the first 30 or so seconds. And I'm not just talking about the ones where the subject changes along with the focal range, I'm also referring to the shots that start out completely blurred and come into focus.

The other thing was the few times you started at full wide, or very close to full wide, and zoomed in, particularly at 48 seconds in. It's especially noticeable in 16:9, there's some clear lens distortion at full wide and when you zoom in and it disappears, it looks really strange to me. I almost never shoot at full wide, I'll pretty much always limit my widest angle to 10-15%.

This didn't bother me, but something else I would have done would be to get a longer take for the time lapse at the end and speed it up more, so as to make it fit into a clip of the same duration. Timing of the clip was good and the comp of the shot was good for a time lapse of passing clouds, but I didn't notice it was a time lapse the first time around because there's not a whole lot of movement.

Finally, you can't go wrong with a polarizer. It would help you with this more than almost any other sort of video I can think of, from what I can tell by watching this trailer.

Some stuff I particularly liked were the shots at 1:12 and 2:50. The lighting was just perfect and they really set a nice tone for a video like this (in fact, I would have liked to see a longer take of the shot at 1:12), depicting it as a fun, laid back event. I also really liked the snap zoom transition at 1:28. And finally, what happened at 2:31? All I see is the bobber shoot to the right haha.
