So the other day im on shining.com to see if there are any updates for
our crappy citidisks when i find three codecs for DVCPROHD for free download

http://www.shining.com/download/firmware/CollectionOfDVCProHDCodec.zip
on this page
http://www.shining.com/support/drivers/

being a user of premiere i thought id give it a whirl as the ADOBE DVCPROHD support that onlocation adds is very slow and doesnt offer a final render option, i would assume that these codecs would be decode only but NO the mainconcept
codec in the zip file let me render out a full 720/25p file (AVI) and in addition was lighting fast in comparison to the Onlocation codec and my limited exprenice with Raylight

Can someone confirm this, are these legal codecs am I diluding myself ? i really dont know much and am trying to devlope a workflow for onlocation to delviery in DVCprohd

I'm really suprised they have that on their site. It looks incredibly shady.

I downloaded the zip file, and inside (along with the codecs) is a text file with a link to what appears to be a Russian website with hundereds of codec downloads.

I counted at least a dozen codecs there that I know for a fact to be covered by patents, so there's almost no possible way this is legit...

As far as the Canopus codec is concerned, there are two versions: a decode-only version that Canopus customers can use on system that aren't running Edius or Procoder so that they can work with files created by the full codec, and a full codec that can also encode. This version requires Edius or Procoder to be installed, and the USB dongle for one of them to be plugged in.

If the codec included in that file allows you to encode and works without a dongle, it's been hacked by someone.

The codecs that are available for download, are they something that you have to install into your NLE or just your PC?
