What would Dobie think of all this?

As I mentioned, I was indeed offended because it is a personal issue with me. I had nothing good to say so I said nothing (at first).

"You can't argue opinions, no one's right and no one's wrong" is an abstract of the orginal issue, if your opinion is that something is offensive who can argue? If someone were to come here with anything titled as your examples I'm sure they would be driven far, far away from here. That would be blatant and pure ignorance.

It just seems that handicaps are a bit gray with "PC" for some people. I'm sure there was no ill intent (which is why I didn't want Bryan to be offended by what I said) it's just a different exposure or life experience with something that one sees as harmless fun while another sees as degrading.

Isaac, if you knew my life you would know that there is nobody who laughs at the antics of the mentally impaired more than I do. I've dealt with it professionally in psychiatric institutions and lived with it in my home for years. This isn't a personal crusade about me being offended. All I'm saying is that if you are gonna pitch, you should be able to catch. To put up a clip that you admit will be offensive to some and not be willing to accept criticism is unrealistic. If you invite comments, don't blow the people commenting off because you didn't like what they said.

But I'll let it die now. There is no more wasted breath than preaching to the choir.

Jim, I understand where your coming from, and I agree that if you're gonna post a film, expect criticism, good and bad.

Hell yes.

pookie- I didn't realize that they had a Los Angeles in Vancouver.

This post was supposed to be:smiley_upone post.

When Pookie takes more than five minutes to reply it can only mean one of two things

1...He's asleep

2...He's doing a boolean image search on Google and about to move us to page fifteen with JPG's

or er...3...I'm totally wrong!

vjbrennan - What I don't get is that you keep saying I can't handle criticism. This has been the basis of your entire argument with me. Where are you getting this from? I really don't know. When did I ever "blow someone off," as you put it, after my short film was adequately reviewed? The only time I can think of is on the second page, in reference to your posting. However I was sincere when I asked if you had even watched the film, since nothing in your posting convinced that you had.

So I would appreciate it if you'd please stop patronizing me, and telling me I can't handle negative reviews. Because after producing 15+ short films and releasing them on the web for all to see, I've most definitely received and accepted criticism.

What caused me to feel that way was

a) your "lighten up" comment. You say I took it out of context, but no one (Up until the time you made that post) said they were joking. It seemed a very offhand way to deal with someone who may have been legitimately offended. JY_blue steted it was "insensitive" He didn't seem to be joking. My POV

b) Your first comment to me was "did you even watch the ****ing thing" While I did not cite specifics from your film, my comments were in no way mean spirited and did not invite that type of backlash. It seemed from that comment you were very easily put off by my post, which merely brought up a point about your subject matter. You came across as very thin skinned. But that's just my opinion

c) You never seemed to address the issue of why you made an an offensive and potentially hurtful film. You just said that you knew it would probably offend some people. I think that reaction is a little insensitive. I'm not saying you shouldn't have made it. There are people who would find it funny, as they expressed here. I just think (again my opinion) that when you make something like this you should realize that it will hurt some people's feelings. When that happens they are going to criticize it. When that was brought up you didn't really respond to that at all. It's like poking someone, then when they say "hey that hurt" You say "yea, I figured it might"

Perhaps "criticism" was the wrong word for me to be throwing around. I was talking far more about your attitude towards people's reaction (real and potential) than I was about the film itself. My personal opinion (and I am a huge fan of South Park, Jackass, Chappelle's Show, et al) is that, funny or not, some material invites controversy. Being prepared to deal with that in an effective manner is part of the deal. Again, my opinion.

Look, it is entirely possible that I blew this thing up more than what most people would think is necessary. But I also through out my posts stated that this was all just my opinion, and that I would be happy to just agree to disagree with you. We have differing points of view. I have no personal vendetta here. From a technical aspect I think the film was well done.

If this has seemed to you like a personal attack I apologize. It was never inteded to be. As I stated in one of my earliest posts, I wish you the best of luck.

From a technical standpoint, it was fairly solid. I just didn't think it was all that funny. The subject matter didn't bother me. It's really quite impossible to offend me, so that wasn't the reason. I just thought it was a little too low brow (even for me).

It's not the kind of film where the audience can really root for the hero. At least with Farrelly brothers films we're not only laughing at the hero but we also empathize/relate to them.

Ok, there's been *some* interesting discussion, but this thing has run it's course, so I'm tucking it in and putting it to bed.
