Hey folks. This is the last short film I made before I bought my DVX100A. And hence, it will forever be the last short film I made with my old, shitty, 1 chip Sony handycam. It served me well, but now the torch has been passed.

You can check out 'Freddy' right here: http://www.amfproductions.com/freddy/freddy_big.mov (Quicktime 6, 12.0MB, 3 mins.)

Enjoy. Comments are welcomed.

(Hope no one is easily offended! It's supposed to be so over-the-top that you should feel free to laugh)

Bryan, welcome to the world of DVX.

I've been following you guys for a while and watching you improve. I thought Superheroes was alot of fun.

Look forward to seeing what you do next, keep it up.

As for Freddy, it fell a little flat to me, was a little brief, but it had it's moments. I'm not easily offended, in fact I'm producing an animated series starring a 'special' person myself.

BLUESPIDER - Oh, alrighty. No problem, heh.

Chance - Hey, cool! Yeah, I should be around here more often now that I got a DVX100A. And in fact, I'm shooting my first short film with it next week. I'll make sure to post it here when I'm finished.

Funny little flick....I agree with the lighten up. If you'd made a film about a murderer I'm sure it would in no way mean all humans are murderers and therefore your film was insensitive or unkind as I'm sure not all people with disabilities would behave like your fictional Freddy. I could understand if your little flick were targeted at someone specific. I think politically correct sometimes has to take a back seat to artistic licence. Keep up the good work!

PS... I guess you could call the film "Freddy the precognitive mentally hanicapped guy who drank a dozen beers"

I believe in artistic freedom, and I think the world is way too PC. But if you are going to make a film like that you should have a better argument about it's subject matter than "Lighten Up".

When you create something that is insensitive, (meaning it has a high probability of being offensive due to it's being directed at a specific demographic of society who have no say in their circumstances for the sole purpose of poking fun at them) you will create a backlash.

That is not a bad thing in and of itself. We all need to laugh at ourselves and our situations. As an artist however you should be involved enough in your own process to understand your own motivations behind your work. Things like satire are an art form. We can learn much from them about ourselves, both in the creation of the art and our reaction to it. But as someone who seems prepared to offend, you seem ill equipped to defend. Perhaps you don't think you need to. Humor is, after all, an undefined quality. As I see it, if something makes you laugh, it's funny. If it doesn't, it's not. Different strokes and all that.

Still, it would take a certain degree of courage to lampoon a segment of society that is actually capable of challenging you. It's easy to pick on those that can't fight back.

Did you even watch the ****in' thing? It's about a retarded guy who can see into the future! He eats ice cream off the ground, befriends a lawn gnome, and gets hit by car. Come on people! I'm not out to offend anyone here. Either laugh or don't. I don't need to be lectured about artistic freedoms, when this short film is anything but a serious artistic attempt. Know what I mean?

I don't see the motivation as being defendable because I think Bryan and hi crew got together with a one chip and said "let's make a short!" I sincerly don't believe for one millisecond that they set out to target or offend any demographic. It looks to me like they tossed out a few goofy ideas and chose this one. If nothing else though Bryan, you will probably put more thought into the subject matter for your first DVX project (LOL) after the thrashing you're getting over this one. Best of luck.

Clean up the language as well there bryan....you're not making many friends....

The guy's a little frustrated and he used the F word.....Like I've not seen that before!

Thanks Mino. Yeah, well I'm not a stranger to thrashings. I realize this type of comedy is not for everyone. I just enjoy exploring different approaches to the genre. This was one of them.

Pookie, was there something wrong with my language? I didn't call anyone a name. I suppose if DVXuser.com cared enough, there would be a "censored" thing.

Bryan,

you are clearly a talented guy. and humor need not be pc.

chappelle show is my favorite thing on tv and it is FAR from pc. my opinion is that while chappelle's satire challenges people to think about their prejudices, what you did was pretty much beat us over the head with an offensive characture. it was funny, but had no other redeeming qualities (a little like a Farrelly Brothers scene, without the heart).

suggest you don't take it so personal when you make a film that could easily be viewed as offensive, you ask for comments, and it isn't all positive. bet if you incorporated some of the input (in your own way, of course), you could produce something more worthy of your obvious intelligence.

i hope to see more from you in the future.

Thanks JY_Blue. Don't get me wrong, though! Like I posted above, I realize this type of comedy is not for everyone.
