I shot this video in 30p. Using a Canon 7D and Sony EX1. Some of the slo-mo action shots were shot in 720 60p overcranked on the EX1 and played back at 30p for smoother slo-mo. If it's for the internet, as this was, then 30p works better since there is no interlace issues on fast motion. If it's for TV then 60i is better.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... it all depends on the STORY and how you plan on TELLING it. Watch some NBA Playoff features and they are done all in 24p to give you a different "look" and "feel" than the normal broadcast. It's as if to say "this piece is meant to be different than when watching the game itself". It also makes the players "feel" larger than life as the 24p gives them an extra surreal portrayal on top of their already superstar status.
All, Thanks for taking the time to respond. As I said, I am a newbie and this was my first footage with the c100. I was filming for a friend who is wanting a video to send to different colleges to try and get some scholarship money. All I can say is thank goodness I had my HFG10 running at the same time. How do you maintain focus while panning? Please keep in mind, I am stills photographer and I thought that if I filmed at F10 or 12 everything would be in focus. Sorry for the stupid questions, but I am trying to learn.
Thanks Carrol! For the DSLR shots at the beginning of the video...the empty field shots...I used a tamron 17-55 F2.8 and a tokina 11-16 f2.8. The rest is all the stock lens on my EX1. You are right in that maintaining focus is a challenge so I used the EX1. Still need to constantly focus, but the smaller chip in it gives you deeper DOF to start with.
