Frame Rate Conversion FCP

Just the facts: I have P2 footage that was originally shot at 720p24. It was imported into FCP from the P2 card at 720p60. Now my footage is double in size. Can I convert this footage back to 720p24 and retrieve its native file size?

thanks everybody,

This is the Workflow section, and this is a Workflow issue, so I'll offer some actual help here.

If you can't reingest using the pulldown option, try using the DVCPRO-HD Frame Rate Converter in the Tools menu. If you don't see it, it needs to be installed from the FCP 5.1 installation DVD. It should do the trick. It's not the way you should do it, as it does something a bit different from pulldown. One really should use the pulldown feature when in the P2 Import window. But the FRC should help out, as far as I can tell. If you can, reingest the footage and use the pulldown feature.

What do you mean that your footage has "doubled in size"? I don't understand that statement.

um... i think i need some help in this department, and this seemed like the most logical thread to bump for it...
anyway, i'm still on FCP 5.0.4, and need to get a project finished tomorrow (today, i guess).
I shot on the firestore (still waiting on the mail for the 3.0 firmware), with the camera shooting in 720/24p. My footage is obviously all 60p, but I can't seem to get cinema tools to "conform" it to 24p. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I wish I could upgrade to 5.1.4, but cash flow is low- maybe next week... I have p2log, and used it to ingest the footage, if that helps...
Thanks

If you shot 24p over 60, then you still have the 24p look. Why do you need to go to 23.98? Is it a hard drive space issue?

FYI...if you do ANY conforming with Cinema Tools you best DUPLICATE the clip you are conforming. Because cinema tools will destructively alter the clip, meaning that it will chage the clip itself, not make a new one with new settings like the Frame Rate Converter will in FCP. If your conform doesn't produce the results you want, or messes up, then your clip is toast and you have to re-import or re-capture.

Shane-
yeah, I found out about that destructive thing... luckily, i still had the firestore connected, and i just grabbed another file... and tried a few other settings, and still failed at conforming it to 24p. is it even possible???? maybe i'm just not understanding something....
It's partially a hard drive issue... but also a playback issue. 60p drops frames like crazy on playback, and just looks terrible.... i'm running fcp on a mini mac/fw400 lacie drive, so maybe that's part of it. but when i put it in a 24p timeline, and render it... it plays fine. Should I just do that for now until I can get FCP updated?
thanks for the quick response
