found new wizard can't install dvx100b

Hey everyone,

I've done some searching and I've found similar problems to mine but not exact. What's happening is this: I've borrowed a friend's DVX100b to shoot some stuff. When I plug in the firewire and fire up the camera, the taskbar shows a bubble saying found Panasonic AG-DVX100B mini-dv camera and then the found new hardware wizard shows up. Now it wants to install software that apparently came with the camera. My friend never gave me any disc and according to the searches I've done, there aren't any drivers I should be needing. I'm running Windows XP SP3.

The computer recognizes the camera and even it's brand, but doesn't have the driver and I don't have the disc, so then I just cancel and it says that there was a problem installing the hardware and that it may not function properly.

What am I missing?

Thanks alot to any kind soul who can help...

There's no software. All Windows needs to do is recognize that the camera is there. The software you need is your NLE.

Yes, but when I tell the hardware wizard that I don't have a disc and it can't automatically find the driver, a bubble pops up and says that my hardware was not installed properly - which means I can't use it.

Premiere Pro keeps on saying "device offline".

In case anyone was wondering, I tried a Sony Mini-DV and the exact same thing happened.

On a hunch, I deleted my firewire card from Device Manager and rebooted and voila it reinstalled the card (plug and play) with the proper drivers and the computer finally recognized the panasonic when I plugged it in.

I guess it needed to get some update or something - who knows? It's working now.

Thanks to everyone who responded!
