FS7: format XQD while filming?

I've been looking this in the manual, Is it possible to format XQD card on another slot while filming/recording on the next slot ?

Strange... it's possible on my F5.

I've had to do it a couple of times when we can't stop recording at an event. Sounds dodgy but it won't let you format the card that's currently writing so not as bad as you'd think. Only issue is if you happen to be formatting when the other card is almost full... oops

I guess one doesn't need to reformat - just delete XDROOT directory on the XQD card, and insert the XQD card.
Is this the recommend way instead of reformat ?

I would just get more XQD cards and format them all at the beginning of the day. They've gotten a lot cheaper, certainly cheaper than an accidentally formatted card.

I just carry 4 cards and if I need more than that, I dump them to the NEXTO Bridge field storage device. Takes about 22 minutes to dump a 128GB card using HDDs and IIRC 17 minutes with SSDs installed. The newest cards with the 440 read rate would be nice to have since they should take less than 22 minutes to dump and then I'd have a continuous supply of fresh cards to use, as the FS7 can fill a card in 22 minutes at its 600Mbps rate. If I were to try to free up space on a card, I'd delete the video files and leave all the folder structure intact, and definitely test thoroughly before doing so on a shoot.

UPDATE: Well jpham, you're right! Cool to know if I ever need it. I deleted the entire XDROOT folder on card B, and while card A was in the camera being recorded on, I put card B in. The camera wrote the missing folders back onto the card, without disturbing the on-going recording onto card A. Once the icon for card B stopped flashing,I switched to card B and it recorded fine. I bet this trick isn't in the manual.
