format err

Hypothetical: so i am the p2 tech on a show, i come across a 16GB card that says "format err" when put it in the HVX. What do i do?

I would assume that it as the result of a deleted directory as discussed in the prominent sticky in this thread. How do i restore it so that the card will work.



(Not hypothetical: It happened and it was 2 cards, but we had plenty to cover those 2.)

format it. there are instructions in the manual.

i was told by the operators that the hvx says "format err." does this not prevent them from formatting the card in the hvx? formatting will solve it?

unless i'm crazy, i'm pretty sure that means you've got an unformatted card. this happens when you delete its contents using something other than the camera itself.
