if you don't currently have a job... and want money to buy a new lens, or mic, or hire a pro actor for a couple of days....

why don't you paint houses this summer?

a lot of people would want their houses painted in the summer...

i've been doing it for a week, and it's paid for a brand new h4n.

pretty simple... don't ya think?

yeah but more people are looking to get their houses painted, right?

it's just easier for anyone to get a painting job (demand, skills, etc)

but.. i could be wrong, i'll check my local CR :)

If you don't have an audio recorder you'll have a hard time getting hired for video jobs. And it depends where you live. Out here you'd be lucky to pay for dinner just doing video, even for the highest end people.

Yeah, I wish life was that simple. But glad it worked out for you this time around.
Life is so easy. Gosh darn.

i'm not a career painter.. i'm working on my first job ever right now, as i'm currently in-between occupations... but i'm making 200+ for a week's worth of painting. not bad for manual labor

$200 for a week of manual labor? that's rough. but i would happily pay someone that to come paint my house.

thanks gord..

of course i don't mean this for people with responsibilities

:) Sorry. I'm such a prick. Btw, I've painted too, and done roofing and tarring and every other rotten student job. List is too long so...cheers. I understand.

cheers man.

all i'am saying... if you really need money for this and that.. you can get it :)

lots of CL ads are from people who just need a piece of furniture moved or something and can't do it themselves. ive made $100 a day on a quarter tank of gas in one day doing it.

Yeah, no doubt. You gotta start somewhere. Once you have those lenses & mics and other gear, then your options will open up.

Nothing wrong with making a buck.

If you charge $200/wk for house painting, and you actually do a good job, I'll hire you. In a few month's I'm moving and I need to repaint the old house in prep for renters...

...hell, at $200/wk I'll even pick up your plane ticket to LA, if you need one...

$200/week is about $5/hr based on an 8-hour day and 5-day work week. That's below minimum wage, so you might want to either a) raise your rates, or b) work less than full time for that same $200. But, yeah -- nothing in the world wrong with starting out, hustling up some work, making some dough, and growing from there.

An even better summer job is life guarding. You can cool off in the pool, read or swim laps when no one is in the water, and impress chicks.

And don't forget, looking for the missing poo....
Last summer I worked in a film shoot for 200€/week (6 week gig) as a trainee electrician (I did the same as the electricians but cheaper, which I didn't really mind because I learned a lot and it was my first feature film) And that was 9-10hr days everyday except Sundays...Exhausting but gratifying...
