For Anyone who Likes Cars

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Good work! I'm still a little confused as to what the advantage was to developing your own software to achieve the effects. Being a FCP, Shake, and Inferno user, I could have easily keyframed those moves. Would you mind shedding some light on the subject?

Thanks,

Bob

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

I don’t use FCP, so I am assuming it’s the same as all the other NLE’s. Most if not all them have the capability to add motion or DVE type moves over an image, however, if you notice the extreme CU of the spark plug and the preceding shot of the engine you’ll get an idea of how much I pushed into many of these shots – 500% or more.

If you use FCP to zoom into an image that much it will turn to crap, it does not have the kind of filtering required to maintain the image quality. Sure, I have a Flame on an Octane, that I don’t think I’ve even powered up in almost a year, it would do this and Shake and AE might do a good job too, but you’d have to render and I find AE difficult to use and Shake painfully slow not to mention how expensive they are. :o

There are a couple of good programs, Imaginate, Moving Picture etc. that are great for their price point but lack the sophistication of their high priced brethren. I was able to do everything I did in real time on a $3K PC, edit and change all of the function curves independently; all on what I hope will become a $200 application.

I think as the experience level of the Imaginate install base goes up they will request the kind of features that I experimented with and could implement them fairly easily, so I don’t know if there’s a market for another one of these types of applications.

Nevertheless, if you think you can do this in FCP please take an image and zoom in 5x or 10x and move around on it and post the results, I’d like to see it.

Thanks

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Thanks ChuckS,

When you were referring earlier to zooming in features, it wasn't clear that you were talking about interpolation and quality of images. I thought you were suggesting they couldn't be keyframed. I'm curious as to what the resolution of the images were?

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Very nice job!!!

I would like to know who sings the song that you used?

Thanks

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Nice work.

The Auburn Boattail speedster is one of my fantasy 'must have' cars. Growing up in Indiana (where Auburns, Cords, and Deusenburgs were made) I've been to the annual ACD festival in Auburn, IN a couple of times. Awesome. Has your friend who owns the car ever been? They have a HUGE classic car auction the same weekend. Actually, I think it's going on This weekend.

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5 will do this all day long with high res stills. The "Classic" 2D, and 3D editors will allow for all that panning and zooming in AND maintain resolution. I've done this before with great effect. I've used 3 and 5 megapixel stills and then "moved" the virtual 720x486 window all over the image zooming in and out, and creating ultra smooth curves and tracks. The ease by which this can be done in LE 5.5 is one of the many reasons I sold off my FCP setup and switched to PC for Liquid.
