For Anyone who Likes Cars

This is the first time I've posted any content. :-/

If you like classic cars you’ll probably like this, the first car was recently purchased for something north of $8M!

This was a test for motion and lighting. I hope you enjoy it.

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

I liked that! Lots of interesting movement on stills. Did you use the DVX in this project, and if so how and where?

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Amazing editing. especially considering the car never actually goes anywhere :)

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

hey chuck, great moves! what program did you use for the stills? moving picture?

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

And what did you use to take those stills? Looks very good.

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

vey cool burns effect - how ?
the quality was exceptional on the stills - the detail was high class.
Surely not the dvx ?

I second that - on the software 'Q' - which did you use ?
& how if you dont mind did you achieve that cool ken burns pan on the stills.

I haven't explored that yet - I have used the ken burns effect in imovie before but the quality is nowhere near what you got on this.

Nice Job ;)

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure what the Burns effect is but I can explain how I produced this.

I have a friend who owns these cars (plus about 50 more) and he asked me to produce a poster, and possibly a calendar and coffee table book. A kind of nostalgic feeling came over me as I walked through all of the cars that I wanted to communicate to the viewer. I got some stock images of 50’s era gas stations, comped the cars into them, and then zoomed out to reveal the car and used each of those scenes to transition to the next car.

Regarding the software, I have tried iMovie; Moving Pictures, Imaginate 2 and all of the NLE’s, none of them gave me the results that I was looking for. I was the founder of a software company that developed compositing software so I called a former developer and we worked together to create something flexible and easy to use. It was important to be able to explicitly adjust any of the parameters independently to get moves that are more organic. After all of our work, I would recommend Imaginate 2, you can probably produce similar moves.

All of the images are stills taken with a digital camera. I hope that I will be shooting these cars in HD, if there are any DVX100a owners in the LA area that would like to participate, let me know – I could use the help. I have another project that I’m working on and might need the services of a good DP and a writer, so if anyone would like to know more let me know.

Gabe, thanks for the compliment, I might go and shoot some additional footage on my DVX and re-edit this, I’m just looking for that perfect blond model… ::)

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Given that "blond" refers to guys and "blonde" references girls, which might you be hoping for?

Very cool movie, BTW. :-)

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

I was almost certain that you used After Effects for this.

Very good editing!

All the best

Fidel.

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Gabe, that was great, when I read it was all still shots with a digital camera that blew me away. I was wondering from any out ther since I new at this form and there have been many things said about vegas, does anyone out there think that vegas 5 can do what Gabe has done with his software?

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

You can just keyframe picture movement in FCP or any other advanced NLE...

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

Sure you can, go ahead and try to push-in 300% with any NLE and see what you get.

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

not really...I do it all the time...it looks smooth...never had a problem with FCP

Re: For Anyone who Likes Cars

nice movie awesome job. i too am looking for that beautiful blonde model.
