for all the programmers

I just got a macbook pro. I was messing around with it, and found an app I had never seen before, photobooth. I started playing around with it, and the sequence one effects, particularly the comic book effect impressed the hell out of me. Usually these things look like you slapped a static sheet of dots over video, but **** this was redrawing every frame.

to get to the point-

I've recently come across an effects technique using after effects and illustrator where you export photo jpegs and process them in illustrator, and bring it back into AE. You can see an example in my demo reel: www.trickmagnetvalentine.com.

So here's what I want to do-- I want to grab the code from photobooth that produces the effect, and either create a photoshop plugin, or something- so I can figure out a way to apply it to my footage. In photobooth it looks like its showing about 4 or 5 frames per second, and I think if you got up to film speed, it would look incredible.

Im not a programmer, and i have no idea how to go about doing this. Any suggestions? I'd say we could sell it as an ae plugin, but i think we'd be sued hella fast...

I wants it. I needs it.

Out of curiosity, can you please post some examples of the photobooth stuff?

I checked out your reel. Pretty Coooool.

Did you do the Lucky Brand spot?

Thanks

but honestly, to get the full picture you have to see it redraw in realtime...

If you're on a Mac, Studio Artist, I do this all the time. Nothing like it in the world. And I can do much more, all to my own specs, not limited to some plug-in's parameters. And it's resolution independent and non-distructive. If you're on a Mac and haven't checked out Studio Artist (synthetik.com), you are missing out...
