Footage too dark?

not to mention that i have noticed light spot artifacts in some scenes i have shot. can't decipher them on the LCD... need to have a monitor, or look thru P2 Viewer or FCP on site.

Guys,

come on, my guess is 95% of the people on the forum dont use a production monitor. That is a luxury and its not required for all forms of shooting. Not everyone is doing the same work you are and with experience you can get very good results using the viewfinder and LCD. Not perfect perhaps but good enough for the majority of applications. Lets not confuse or worry unnecessarily.

The thing about zebras are they are only one tool in judging your exposure. You have to understand what it is telling you. You also have a spot IRE exposure nmeter right there in your viewfinder.

God, I need the HVX-Book. I figured everything out I wanted, I set the Zebra 2 to 105%, but I can't get it to show, even not while filming into a bright lamp almost full open. What did I miss? And I also can't get manual focus, I can focus manually, but the camera will keep autofucusing.

there already is an hvx book - the manual.

Is your camera in manual mode? - i think there is a switch near the back on the left side

Yes, it was in manual mode. I don't know, what I did wrong, but now the manual focus seems to work. But the manual did help for the zebra issue, this now works too.

Congrats Pascal,

If you went back and did your shot again with the Zebras you would probably find that exposing for the background makes the subject too dark and exposing for the subject blows out the background.

Now its time to find out about Sun guns, flecky boards and filters.

I already found out about most of the stuff, I have even known some of it for a long time, but I can only use what I can use.
