Footage Missing on Sony HDV Tape

Using my Canon Xh-A1, I shot onto a Sony HDV tape. Today when I went to capture the footage, it looked as if there was no data for the first ten minutes. When the video finally started to show up, the timecode was at ten minutes. I found that if I was playing back the video and rewound, I was able to see footage that was otherwise missing. Has anyone run into this problem before?
 
I've had something similar happen before I think. I don't remember it too clearly but I think I just ran a head cleaner for a few seconds and everything was back to normal.
 
Exactly - same as Moseph. If you see it it fast shuttle mode, it is probably there. Head cleaner fixed it in the past for me.
