Editman:

Didn't see many pictures except 2...maybe it's blocked cause i'm at work.
What kind of monitor is that and does it work good with the d90?

It's a TFT monitor with composite input so the quality is not as good as HDMI.
I have to make a hood when shooting in sunlight.

hey editman, could you give us any information about the monitor, a good place to find some and the price range of a normal, decent TFT?? thanx in advance, ben

My initial plan was to have a rig with external monitor, but when trying everything out it becomes a heavy rig for shoulder use. The D90's display is so much sharper and don't add any weight. Since you have to hold the D90 very steady in order to avoid the yello effect it does not make things better with a heavy rig.

I'm rethinking it and am looking for a hood to the D90 display instead.

If you can find a lightweight small TFT with HDMI input this would improve on the D90's 3" but I think a hood is better and easier. Best of course would be an electronic viewfinder similar to the ones on videocameras. But they are expensive.

Actually... if you have a balanced heavier rig, it should significantly reduce the jello effect. You'd have to have the camera on your shoulder mostlikely to use it with an external monitor properly however. So that might complicate things a little for focusing and changing settings.

So maybe you're on the right track not using an external. The LCD screens on these DSLRs are a lot better than the LCDs on cameras like the HVX. How come photographers get all the cool things in life!

Try to find a way to counterbalance your rig on your shoulder so you can view the back of the camera in front of you.

hey mats, i need to try that ff with my camera. i'm stupid enough to consider the d90 for a feature so i need all the help i can get. :-)

this might sound a little crazy, but what if we put a diopiter on the screen :huh:kinda like the ex3 viewfinder. ON dvinfo somebody did this to his ex1 lcd, so why not a d90 or 5d?

Now I might think about taking the screen out of the camera, extendinmg the conecting wires, and mounting it on an israli arm with a diopiter!

It would end up something like a red viewfinder.
