I am a 35-year veteran still photographer, and have used the D60, 10D and 40D since they all came out. I got a new 7D yesterday, and was wondering about video focus.
As far as I can tell, is this camera strictly manual focus on video mode? I see there is auto settings for exposure, ISO etc. on the auto video modes, but am I right in assuming that no matter what I do, this camera HAS to be focused manually while shooting videos?
Also (and I know this is a noob question) I was really hoping to compose and shoot video while looking through the viewfinder, as I have been doing with stills for years. It is a natural way to compose art for me. But I see that when in video mode, the mirror locks up so that the sensor receives the data. (Another noob question) Is there any way to shoot video while looking though and focusing using the viewfinder?
