Focal length increments

With the Canon 24-70 attached to Canon C200, the focal length is displayed. But not every number gets displayed as you move through the range.

Is this just as good as a stills lens can be in terms of accurately displaying the focal length, or maybe the communication between this lens/camera combo can't show more specific data.

I'm not trying to solve a problem, just a random thing I noticed and was wondering if anyone knows more.

I thought maybe there was a pattern, but these are the focal lengths which can be displayed, the missing numbers in between do not show up:

24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 33, 35, 38, 39, 41, 42, 44, 45, 47, 50, 53, 55, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67, 70.

I noticed the same when I used to have my C200. No idea why every focal length number wouldn’t show up. Weird for sure, but not too big of an issue.

Hah, yes not an issue at all, unless you had to shoot, with proof an exact mm. Does the c5002 act differently?

The C500 II functions in the same way, I can confirm. Skips a lot of focal lengths when zooming with the 24-70.

Dealbreaker for me. I have to be able to shoot certain types of shots at 37mm, otherwise I storm off set.

This does call back for me moments from set 20 years ago or more, when a director would announce that he loved the 40mm but hated the 35mm. If we really had it in for them, sometimes we'd cover over the focal length number on the lens with tape and when he asked for the 40, we'd put the 35mm on the camera and watch as he looked through the eyepiece and announced how perfect and beautiful that focal length was.

That all said--40mm is one of my favorites too. 24, 40 and 75/85 are probably my most oft used.
