Fluid Video Head for 5D Mark II?

Hello,

I have Gitzo GT3541LS and plan to buy the GS5121LV Leveling base and a Fluid Video Head...just need to decide on a good one.

I've considered Bogen/Manfrotto 501/503/701HDV heads.
What other heads, maybe a small step up should I look at?
I really like the look of Sachtler heads, but are there any affordable for someone who isn't doing "serious" video right now?

Budget $100 - $700 for the head.

Feedback welcome.

I was looking at these heads too, but the Libec H22 ( $265 at B&H) was recommended to me. I just got it, have yet to mount it, but it's very nice, much better than the 501/503/701 line up.

Cheers,

Libec for sure. IMO it's gott abe the most cost effective choice for those looking to own sticks and an awesome fluid head right now.

congrats Simon.

Thanks all. I will look at that one. What about Sachtler, is there an affordable option of this brand?
Simon when you take some sample shots with that Libec, post them up and share with us the link, I'd like to see how they perform.

Right now I'm trying to get a Manfrotto 325N adapter to mount the 75mm bowl of the head onto my Gitzo 1348 MkII tripod that has a flat top.

Cheers,

I did a lot of research and the general consensus was the 501 is pretty average. The libecs are supposed to be quite good.

I was lucky enough to pick up an ex-rental miller DS10 head for $170. It came disassembled and missing a few bits but the guys at miller HQ were kind enough to take pity on a struggling indie filmmaker and did me a great deal on the extra bits I needed for $100 so now I have a functioning $1000 head (that's Australian dollars I think they cost a bit more in the US). I can thoroughly recommend the Miller and they have a great reputation, it's a bit out of your price range but if you look around you might be able to find one second hand.

That Miller DS10 looks awesome, for $900+, is a bit out of my range for starting off with shooting HD Video on the 5D Mark II.

I would try calling B&H and asking someone if the head can be purchased separately.

This one is just a few dollars outside the price range you mentioned. I would imagine the head alone being $100-$200 less without sticks - if you can buy it that way.

Thats not a bad option! I'll have to find out more on the FSB 2.
