GH5 Fluid Dynamics

Several weeks ago I saw Mitch Gross comment how one of the most difficult things a codec has to deal with are fluid dynamics. After I got off work on my day job (I know, good thing I got one. . . ) I went to the Morrow Point dam on the Gunnison River where the Bureau of Reclamation was releasing about 11,000 cubic feet per second to honor a water call from downstream water users (California). Talk about fluid dynamics. This is GH5 24 & 60p 10 bit vlog 4k externally recorded to DnX HQX.

I'm lucky enough to have a small waterfall and some rapids nearby. They're a standard test for any new camera I get.

Failing that test is partly why I switched from the GH4 to the BMPCC. 100 Mb/s just isn't enough for 4k.

I doubt he really means fluid dynamics. He probably means turbulent flowing water. Not at all the same thing. I doubt any CODEC known actually contains the algorithms to solve the Navier-Stokes equations, or can even differentiate between laminar and turbulent flow.

Although most CODECs will give you a lot less macro-blocking with laminar flow. :cheesy:
