Fluid and tripod suggestions

Hey guys/gals

I want to get a fluid head and tripod for my gh1 and i have no idea what to look at or look out for when buying....complete beginner.

What id like from the head is something quite pro with all that custom drag stuff as I'd like to keep it for a long while. I'd like to be able to disassemble it in some way to flat fit it onto a glidetrack or joby focus gorilla pod and photography head if that's even possible.

As for the tripod something light and sturdy/solid that's quite universal in terms of bolting on new stuff in the future. I really like the appeal of the old gitzo 2227

because of all the odd angles you can get out of it. Not sure if its any good for videos though. Basically i'm after a very versatile set of legs that good for both video and photography.

My budget is about $1000-1400US, maybe more if its worth it. what would be your ideal setup for that ballpark

cheers.

Hey there,

I'm also thinking Gitzo -- probably a leveling model like the GT2540LLVL. Or maybe a standard (non-leveling) version like a GT1541. The idea here is to stay very light. We travel a lot.

As for a head, I don't really want to have a small, light GH1 and a light tripod and then put a 7-lb fluid head on it! Yeah, things will be more "fluid" with a big head -- maybe MUCH more fluid -- but at this point in my thinking I'm willing to sacrifice fluidness for staying light and small with a Gitzo G2180 or G2380. Or maybe the (non-fluid) tilt-and-pan G2272M. I think this decision -- big head or small one, fluid or not -- depends on the type of shooting you'll be doing, of course.

Any comments, suggestions, etc. would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Bradley

thanks guys...will look into all mentioned. Though that 525 leg is a bit too much of a unit for me....something thats abit more ninja would suit me better.

yeah i agree that a good balance is key. I know i wont be throwing anything larger a 5d(full frame) on it so i'd like to get something now that will accommodate it later.

as for what type of shooting i will be doing, I have yet to figure out myself. It would all be personal interest projects with some nice pans and glides...nothing industry or commercial but i'd like it to look as professional as possible.

Is there a site where equipment such as these are reviewed?
