Florida pythons for MonsterFest???

A little while ago I read in a european newspaper, that Florida (especially the Everglades) is full of pythons that are breeding rapidly, coming ilegally from Burma and making a lot of trouble there. I asked myself, if this could be a theme for MonsterFest and if somebody would take it on as an idea for a script?!

Being a Florida resident, i can confirm that their is a pretty big python problem here. The problems arise in that people buy these Burmese Pythons (not necessarily from Burma, its just the name of the species). They buy the snakes when they are a few feet long (babies). However, Burmese Pythons grow to be 20+ feet in length, and most people simply cannot care for and feed an animal of that size. So when the Pythons get too big to care for, people simply bring them out to the everglades and let them free. Being a non-native species, these snakes reek havoc on the local ecosystems. Their was even one case of a massive Burmese Python devouring a whole alligator. It then promptly exploded. As for entering this for Monsterfest, i would think that their would have to be something grossly abnormal about the snake for it to be considered a monster. I would love to shoot a film about this, seeing as i have the location already, but i don't see how i could incorporate the monster aspect into it, at least satisfactorily.

From the rules:

The term "Monster" as defined for this fest refers to a being that is a gross exception to the norms of some ecosystem.

I would say these pythons form a gross exception to the norms of the Florida ecosystem, or maybe not?

There was nothing grossly abnormal with Jaws... or Anaconda... or Arachnophobia... or Lake Placid yet those are all Monster Movies. I think this could be a great story given that it's grounded in truth!

Hmm, maybe. Susanne, were you just giving the idea or did you want to work on a film based on this idea? Do they have wetlands in Berlin?

It seems to me it is completely within the rules of the fest. However, it would be a nice variation to the usual zombies! If you like the idea - do it - we don't have wetlands here! I am looking very much forward to your project .

Maybe it could just get an artificial heart that powers it's robotic suit and it could fly around blasting people.

Or a Snake could put on a black suit, with cape, and be good with technology... His nemesis being another Snake that dresses as a clown!?!?!

Well, at least i have a plot line now! Lol, but seriously, im already working on another short for monsterfest, but if i have time i will try to work this idea a little further and turn it into something submittable.

Involving people turning into snakes...

SSSSSSS was creepy when I saw it as a kid.

I haven't seen Curse II, yet.

Just had a thought though. A snake wanders into a pond used by a scientific test facility, governmental of course, ingesting weird poluttants. A mosquito later bites the snake, carries the virus and infects a human . The symptons begin with bumps inside the nose, eyelids and ears becoming larger and more painful until they burst releasing mutant baby worm sized snakes which scatter off to wreak more havock and so on.
But the bad news isn't over. The host isn't dying, he's actually becoming the Queen or King Snake that's breeding these mutant snakes though openings in his body, eyes, ears, mouth and, ummm. Sucks to be him.

Or if your going feature length, instead of the mosquito infecting a human first, it infects a bird ala West Nile Virus and then, take your pick to drag the story on.

Your welcome. Leave donations in my mail box and I'll pick them up in the morning. Otherwise, no burning bags of turd on my front stoop please. Thankya kindly. I'll leave the light on for ya.
