Flip LCD waveform / vectorscope

Flip LCDs take very little space, this could be added on I believe.

Besides the story which is not camera related, nothing is more important I feel that lighting, image quality certainly is concered with that. The Red One has image resolustion under wraps so I think the greatest asset is a tool to bring back more lighting concentration video users. I think we all understand how the addition of sound in motion pictures changed the way they were created and has influences lasting today. A return to lighting concentration in combination with storytelling would a beautiful thing. Video cameras need to have an accurate way to judge light. This type of convenience may be an answer.

Thank John.

I believe Red has announced an after market LCD flip out screen. If this screen is the same quality, or upgraded to the quality of a nice production monitor, I believe the package would be complete. Perhaps I should have worked more on this but its very late and I'm about to head in, this is the easiest design which comes to mind: http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=redonelcdflipouts5jc.png

Also you could have built hardware with different plugs that allow for special flat screens to be snapped into place and adjustable. The screen or screens would immediately preview footage, waveform or vectorscope when turned on. The screen could be 3 individual ones as I drew quickly above, or 1 large screen with a picture in picture / split screen look. Or one large monitor could also be switched in between all 3 modes with a button. One contingent is that the monitor needs to be of high resolution with professional capabilities. The module doesn't have to be connect so heavily to the camera body either, it would only require a small outer casing for support and attachment, with wires running inside. Hopefully snap/plug into place.

Another positive outcome is that some may learn to use these tools, or improve their knowledge with them, when they otherwise would not have access or taken the time.

I still think this is an idea which should be incorporated into Red One. It encompasses many ideas and offers a vast range of functions which might be too lengthy to really develop, offering anything from mere aspect ratio masking to image magnifying functions for focus. It will offer enumerable solutions and abilities to the filmmaker while pushing them in a direction to use the tools, mostly photographic; this point should not be taken lightly.

For the most part I am a director but I do like to photograph my own work as I learn the craft. Being behind the camera helps me to create my projects in a much more visually engrossing way. The ability to have one or more LCDs attached in practical positions with versitile uses for any situation will advance the dir/dp and the man behind the camera's work (which may be the same person) photographically.

I think a vectorscope and a histogram or waveform monitor on flip out LCD screens are the best idea that has been put forward for the contest. I think you should win the prize. That is something that I definetly want on my next camera. I want to be able to look at the vectorscope and bring my chrominance into range.
