Flickering issue with vegas 9 64bit and new i7 machine

ok, just got this new i7 machine, and 6 gig or ram, have win 7 installed , today i was trying to see how fast the rendering speed would be with this new setup, and for some reason every mts (avchd) gh1 file i bring (59.940 1280 by 720) will have "flickering" in it, i never had this issue with a basic pc win xp and vegas 9 32bit ever, never seen this...even when i render the file, the flickering is rendered with it..i tried a 23.97 clip, and no flickering appers, so all the 60p gh1 files show that, and i just checked on my other pc,they play fine and nothing worng with them on the old system... thanks
here is an example
it should be uploaded within 10 min, thanks for any feedback,by the way i tried different max cores (tired 4 and 8) and lowered and raised dynamic ram, and still have flickering ..

also, let me add, that windows media plays these original mts files without any issue, this issue only happens in vegas pro..

same project settings & same render & encoding settings as used on the old system?

was this just a straight encode? any editing or effects applied?

was the "flickering" visible in the preview window in vegas?

Yes visible during preview, and during render, no plugins or editing were added, all i added was just render the clip. This system is clean, first time load of win 7 64 and later that night i installed a clean vegas pro 9 64 clean install, a

the flickering you see here has also some noise with it, kind of like it changes the gamma settings, some clips have it more, some clips have this flickering at a fast rate , some have this flicker once every few seconds, its so strange, I never seen this before.

i want this to work so bad, editing is so so so smooth on this machine compared to what i thought was a great pc n the dual quad opetron 280 i had, the render time is at least 3-4 times shorter if not more...

ok, sorry o\for all the info, but i hope this may help someone in the future .I was thinking , only mts files (avchd) do this, since the 23.97 file i played was an mp4, does this have anything to do with me not having some type of filter or codec installed (since this is a new install of both win and vegas),a codec that i may have installed on my old system that made things work better in vegas, im just putting my thoughts out on here, sorry again for this long thread .

ok, today i found out its not just a 60p issue , ALL mts files form the gh1 one do this, avi and mp4 file play and render perfect ..here is another example of whats going on, again i see this in the preview and in the same time its being rendered, all i did is render this mts file to mp4 ,no editing or plugins or anything.

This is a tricky one.

Is there any way you can get us a few seconds worth of an unntouched MTS file out of the camera?

I downloaded the mp4 file off Vimeo and pulled it into the editor. At first, it looked like your camera mirror... but of course the GH1 doesn't have one... so I looked closer. At times, the flicker has a cadence pattern. It's almost like whatever tool you have doing pulldown is doing it incorrectly, and combining frames wrong. Unless I can get a look at an untouched MTS I won't be able to verify that. But looking at the footage, that's what it looks like to me.

Curious if anyone else is seeing the same thing. Download the clip, step through frame by frame. Start at say frame 200 and go to frame 264. After that things settle down a while.

It's also possible the camera is faulty, but we can't know that without the raw files to scrutinize.

perroneFord, thanks for taking the time! Here is the same file MTS raw, it is shot 60p from gh1, the issue is not with only this file only, its every single avchd mts file i bring in, and all these files i have already worked on before on my old 32bit vegas in win xp on a much slower machine, the same exact ones (again, they play great with windows media also, its just when i bring them into vegas), again mp4 or avi files i tried to work on dont do this for some reason..here is the last mts file staight from the gh1

Well,

I was about to tell you it was your camera. But it's not. Something on your system is corrupting these files. So do this:

1. Point the GH1 at something for 5 seconds. Copy that raw file to your harddrive. Do NOT open it. Just upload it to that same upload host you used for the last clip, and let me take a look at it.

2. If you still have the old machine around, do the same thing there. I cannot remember if the GH1 shoots to Compact Flash or something else. But if it is something other than compact flash, write protect the card before you bring it into either system.

Send me the links to both, and let me take a look at those.

thanks again for taking a look at this..Im not sure if I understood right..do you want me to shot a short clip, dont watch it or open it, download it to the hard drive of the new i7 machine and upload it to the same site.than do the same thing to from the xp system , the same file just but a copy from the i7 win7 machine and a copy from the xp machine?

I think you got it...

Copy from the GH1 to the Win7 machine, and upload. Then copy from GH1 to old mahine, and upload. Don't open or view it on either computer. If this works on the old computer, but not the new, then it's isolated to just your new machine.

I will do that tomorrow afternoon..whats is crazy about this, is that the mts files outside of vegas, lets say i try to play them on windows media player ,play perfect on both machines, its juts when i being them into vegas i have this issue, anyway here is the pc components,i thought about the video card or the overclocking (its overclocked to 3.5),but these seem normal ,i dont know i could be wrong
Motherboard: EVGA X58 3XSLI Socket LGA1366
Processor: i7 920 2.66ghz ( zalman 9700 heatsink/fan combo)
Video Card: EVGA 260 core 216
RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600mhz (PC3 12800)
Hard Drive: two Western Digital 400GB Caviar Blues
Power Supply: Corsair 650W PSU

i will upload the files tomorrw, thanks agin!

Your MTS file that you uploaded played with the issue for me inside Vegas, and with other players I used. The MTS file itself that you uploaded is bad. Not sure why you can't see it in your other players.

Ok, we'll pick it up tomorrow at some point. I've got a big film handoff so I don't know what time I can get around to it.

I am having the same problem!! I took some video at a childrens Chirstmas concert yesterday in avchd 720 60. I have Vegas pro 9 and an i7 machine. The clips play perfect in Windows media player, but when I import them into Vegas, they are doing the exact same thing your examples are doing. I spent all night trying to figure out what is wrong...random flickering and colour changes...this shows up in preview and in straight rendering. I tried checking field order - lowerf ireld first and reduce interlace flicker with no luck. I will be watching this thread with baited breath for a solution... I should add that my camera is also a GH1.

No issues with your native test clip for me - in other software or vegas

But my PC that has vegas installed is XP 32-bit and the Vegas install is 9.0a 32-bit

First, schtingle, i thought i was going crazy, so im not the only one, i hope we can solve this somehow, its hard for me to think we all have bad files ,mts files, that worked on the old machine and xp wth no issues, im talking about every single file..

PDR,thats the same exact point im trying to make, and that is these files are fine have worked for me great on the same 32 bt system you have for the passed year, the issue is vegas 64 bit not liking all of my mts files on my new i7 64 bit, thanks for taking the time to look at this .

AgentOrange, thanks for this tip, as this may be the issue, i will uninstall c and install b tnight and see if it helps

peeroneford, again thank you so much for tking the time, but as schtingle said i dont think the files are bad, they cant be, as i have explained they work perfect and have worked great on my old system,as you can see with my new upload to vimeo, the same file that is going crazy on my new system, worked fine last month and was editied and rendered without an issue, i even brought it back to my old system last night, and again no issue at all...thanks again, i iwll try to upload what we talked about as soon as get home from work.

Dammit...

Just put that file into Vegas 8 on XP and it's fine. After lunch I am going to put it into Vegas 8.1 on XP, and Vegas 9 on XP and let you know what I see.

So don't worry about doing what I said last night. The problem is not with how you get the footage to the machine.
