Flashy DEMO REEL!! PLEASE CRITIQUE!

I wanted to take a different approach in production showreels. Alot of showreels are well done but they often are slow and dragging, I hope to take a different approach with mine. Please critique and offer your opinions. THANKS!!!

Hi! Nice reel!

I thought there were some really good shots in there. I'm not so sure about the "flashy" editing at times though. There were lots of little snippets of shots that were up and gone so quick it was hard to really take them in. I would slow the pace of the editing down just a tad.

I found the video embed annoying. There was no way to tell how long the clip is and no way to skip around once it started. Problem with my browser?

I feel like I've just seen everything you've ever done. Not in a good way.
It may have been edited fast but it dragged on, and with no timeline embedded to tell you how close you actually are to finishing it.

I get what you are trying to do with the style you choose but a reel that's on the verge of 3 minutes is a bit much. Unless you have the most captivating footage in the world, there is no reason why it should be that long. As I've learned and spoken with many editors when it comes to reels, if you can't sum yourself up in less than 90 seconds, people may lose interest relatively quick. I understand you want to make a reel that you would want to see but as filmmakers, the audience always comes first

i thought it drug on a bit long also. there were a lot of strong shots though. one negative thing that really stuck out to me was seeing skateboard shots that seemed to just keep coming back into the picture over and over again. i think it would be better served to clump them together and then move on. plus i think they ruin a little bit of your cred compared to many of the other shots unless your market it shooting that stuff. maybe each genre could stay more grouped than what seems like a very fragmented presentation. also, since you showed the more flashy aspects of your work i dont have enough of a sense of how you would shoot if there wasnt something overly flashy going on. makes me wonder it you can just shoot attractive and compelling footage without the mega flashiness.

i do get the feeling that there is more about you thats worth looking at than what i just looked at. need some more subtle but still compelling scenes i think.

i share alot of what has been said already. what kind of reel is this BTW? If this is a DP/cinematographer's reel i want to see this slowed down so i can see the images better. So i can take in your lighting. there are some nice shots in there but as im ready to really take it in...its gone. i also am a fan of project by project. Group clips from one project show me that in a nutshell and all the best shots....and move on.
