Flashing Red "OFF" Icon

It's in middle right side of the display and can't find it in the manual. On yesterday's weddng it started flashing indoors at hotel, then outdoors (it was cold) and during the speeches which was totally nerve racking I can tell you! Just checked the tapes and relieved they play back OK. It's not the condensation droplet icon so am mystified what it is and what action I should have taken. Any ideas please?

It's not the auto-off function then? I think this happens if you don't shoot for a few minutes. But if it happened while you were shooting I have no idea what it is.

Thanks but it's not the auto off. Can't believe it's not in the manual. I have another wedding this Thursday and am desperate to find out what it is before then.

I vaguely remember an off icon coming on when the camera decided I should turn off my ND filter. Can't remember what mode I was in though, and I haven't seen it since. I think it also told me to turn it on, and I might have been using the auto setting back then.

Solved!

Solved!

Mystery solved thanks to Canon service centre who were initially stumped but persevered and rang me back with the answer.
If the card/tape switch is set to tape and you press the photo button the red icon flashes to tell you that the card is not selected i.e. off. I must have inadvertently pressed photo, I'm not sure why it stayed on for several minutes each time but I'm not worrying and can relax now.
