Flare on Nikon 17-35mm (with F3)

This Guy Alister Chapman in his comparrison OF the F3 and FS 100 mentions a flare due to using an adapter on Full frame Lens . ?

"Oe thing we discovered, not mentioned in the video is that when you use a full frame lens, like the Nikon 50mm. You must ensure that the E-Mount adapter you use has an internal baffle or choke. If it doesn't you will suffer from excessive flare. The adapter I had did not have a baffle and some shots (not used) were spoilt by flare. The adapter I have from MTF for the F3 has a baffle as do MTF's E-Mount adapters, so these should not suffer from this issue."...............

I call BS on that. The difference in the rear element diameters between for example 50mm f1.2 and 14-24 f2.8 is so huge that you'd need different baffle sizes for each. If you make effective baffle for 14-24 it would vignette half of the 50mm image. Marketing has no boundaries....

I have the lens and can test - What was your experience? Assume you are using the MTF > F3 adapter?

Yes, I use MTF adapter with Nikon mount lenses. At the moment, I shoot with Tokina 20-35/2.8. Great lens until you shoot against over exposed windows... Nasty flares! I wonder if Nikon is any better. And of course, I really could use those extra 3mm on wide end...

I have the 17-25 F.28 Nikon and have used it a fair amount. Haven't noticed any flare issues. I will try to do a torture test tonight to see how easily it is to get flare going with it.

BTW the lens is stellar in terms of clarity and it being "rectilnear". I have used this lens for a few years as a stills lens and have nothing but good to say about it. It is my go to wide angle zoom lens.

EDIT:

I just read that you are having problems with the Tokina varient against well lit windows. Will have to wait until daytime. Unfortunately I am completely booked tomorrow. Get to it as soon as possible.

Yeah,
I use to own this lens while back when shooting (Nikon) F5s... This lens is optically far better than any copy of Canon's 16-35 I tried (and I tried a lot!). When I switched to Canon digital, this and all other Nikon glass were gone but I always missed it. Now, because of F3, Nikon (mount) lenses are back in my bag. Just not sure if Nikon 17-35 is worth $700 more than the one I use now (20-35 Tokina). Again, 3mm wider would be nice but not $700 nice...
