FIREPROOF - The new film from Sherwood Pictures

I'm still at a loss...

How does Seth MacFarlane (through Family Guy) "push an Atheist theme"?

You mentioned that Brian is an Atheist and loves to talk about it; but Peter is a Catholic and Lois is a Protestant (both of which are talked about, and used as major plot points, infinitely more than Brian's spiritual views are)...

Said and read - concerns over board topic - so i'll cut it out myself - EDIT

As far as I know, the idea that the church is using the profits for a new community center or church repairs is just speculation. I haven't seen any info to that effect.

It's very likely that the church DOES have mission efforts in those countries and others, as well as other community outreach programs. Many churches do.

The cast and crew donated their time to the church. I would imagine they are quite comfortable with what the church does with its money.

Lastly, have you ever heard of an indie filmmaker cutting a distribution deal that got him 50% of the profits??? I haven't.

I could see a good deal, maybe not 50% but remember they had a success (Facing the Giants) . Tyler Perry is technically an independent, yet I'm sure he's not making pennies on the dollar.

It doesn't take much to stray in this thread.

But that's what makes it fun and why everyone no matter what is constantly refreshing pages to see the next comment. - I mean 39 pages so far! That's what as much as the Corrado and Lonely Place for Dying threads.

"Keep it on topic" and "we've cleaned it up twice now" are polite ways of saying that this thread is on sudden-death notice for being closed for violating several of the 8 Ps. :)

Sudden death. Whoa, waitaminute, what'd I miss? I think everyone's trying their best to behave. This is turning out to be one of the most interesting threads.

Not about the thread topic it's not.

There hasn't been any interesting discussion about Fireproof (the movie) in quite some time.

we have been talking about the film, the acting in the film, the motivation of the filmmakers, the motivation of the viewers, the motivation of the non viewer, the money made by the movie what will become of the money made by the movie, why Hollywood is against this movie and others like it and there motivations.

we've compared this movie in both artistic style to other films, and meaning and motivation to even other films like religilus.

we've talked about what this film represents, and on of the main things this film and its success represents is a new life for Christian films. thus we can't talk about this film in a 40 page topic without exploring the genre, and we can't explore this genre without taliking about its impact and the people who support and fight against it having a new life.

one topic we have avoided is and I think its probably for the best is the interfaith politics that at times have also hurt the advancment of the genre.

it is sad that a few people who can't handel the conversation may end it for the many of use who have enjoyed these 40 pages, I admite I've walked the line a couple times, however I don't think I've actually crossed it. (by the way CROSSED it) was not a pun. it would be nice to get another 40 or even 80 pages out of this thread untill it dies on its own and fades away into the back pages of dvxuser. however as sure as I know many of the things I know, I know there will be some who will make that hard.

If all the deleted posts were still in the thread, you'd have no confusion. We've let it go this far simply because it HAS been interesting, but if it keeps inspiring the kind of stuff we've deleted, it'll need to be closed.

I've kept out of it because you guys have all gone way off topic many times. Otherwise, why would the Mods have to delete posts and clean house multiple times? And now post "Last chance" warnings?

I've kept out of it because this thread has obviously lost its way. Face it, this thread would never have achieved the post count it has without the religious debate raging back and forth.

Had it stayed on topic if would have drifted south a while ago.

Cheers,

Mike

I thought J.R. and Brandon have done a pretty good job of keeping us inline, sort of the Angel and the devil on our shoulders, not saying which is which lol,

I went to see this film again and it was just as good the second time around. she shot with the train where the sparks fly off the firefighters back wat really well done. nice Practical effects work.

I think you underesimate this film, but you're right there has been some Religious talk, there sort of has to be when talking about a Christian film. just as if we were talking about Natural Brn killers, it would be expected to talk about serial killers, and criminal rampages that helped inspire the film in one way or another. or the glorification of violents in the movies, with other films being brought up as examples.

or if we were talking about 9 1/2 weeks, the topic of sex and how its viewed in the American social enviroment. both the positive and negative views of it.

Every once in a while something flairs up, but has been stamped out pretty effectivly.

but being a highly succesfull Christian film Fireproof has bread a lot of controversy. and discusing the controversy around it is still discusing the film, I don't see how you could talk about one without the other, there is more to films and film making than lighting acting and camera angles.

This thread gets shut down it's going to be like drug detox. LOL.

HA agreed, I'm already trying to give up pepsi, can't handle giving them both up

I think there still a lot me hunt in the fireproof dog. with it expanding into more thearters this weekend more viewers will get to see it, considering its been in the top four with such a small reliese and still is, I think more theaters will boost it up to 2nd or even number one for the Fall, or at least October untill madagascar 2 comes out. I can easily see it passing bye Eagle Eye, it seems its been dropped from a lot of the Bay Area Theaters already, while Fireproof is still expanding theaters.

one one hand I'd like it to have a long run, on the other hand I'd like the DVD for Christmas lol.

Of course there is, but discussing religion is against the rules. The same way that we can't really discuss W on here in terms of politics. If people start blabbing about how crappy a president he is (not my opinion, just an example) it would be shut down pretty fast. Same rules should apply here.

Keep talking about the trains spark effects and see how long this thread lasts. :)

having a topic that involves religion and talking religion are two seperate issues. with few exceptions no one here is shelling for their religiious beliefs, we're not arguing about which God is real or not, and i think that is the point of the rule, with a few exceptiong of course when we had to bring up the religious aspects of the film, it was OKed by J.R.

we're not arguing the merrits or Christianity, or its place in the world, or how right or wrong people who believe in whatever are. simply where it is in the Genre, and filmmaking in general, and of course Fireproof.

however if i'm wrong as the rule is ment to ban anymention of anything Religious, then any mention of NGL would need to be removed, including Brandans flyer, half the films in twilight fest would have to be shut down.

jus like this film and Christianity, you'll find it is impossible to talk about W without bring up the politics behind it, thats all the film is, I mean you can only say brolen is or isnot a good actor so many times.
