What movies were realeased 2 weeks before their release?

I have no idea how many movies were "realeased" before their release, because I have no idea what "realeased" means. However, my assumption is that NO movies have ever been "released" before their release, because that's a contradiction in terms (unless you're talking about two different meanings of "release").

Now, in regard to movies "not finished until 2 weeks prior to their release" (as Loki was talking about), I have heard of several such examples, though I can't cite them offhand. We're not talking principal photography, but things like editing, soundtrack, etc. I think there was a Hitchcock film where the prints were struck perhaps the night before the opening. I've read quotes where they used hyperbole, such as "The prints were still wet when they went out to the theaters."

At an Apple event about Shake last week. The speaker sited King Kong as an example. Supposedly the special effects for the movie were only completed days before that presentation and the first screenings. Take a look at any famous director. Chances are that most of them have come down to the wire on at least a few of their films.

If you've seen Aviator, Howard Hughes was apparently making changes to his film immediately after its gala Hollywood premiere. How is that for cutting it close?

I'm fairly certain that Jurrassic Park falls into that category. I think ILM was working on that until 1-2 weeks before opening.

or that companies work on software right up until the final ship date?
Alas, software patches come in abundant supply because of this. I've worked in a software engineering firm, and I've heard the sentence "We'll just send out a patch later on.", all too often.

And just to confirm, hardware manufacturers building devices with embedded software, like Panasonic, tend to be more thorough, as patches aren't easily distributable to all camera owners. Just imagine a camera crashing... "OK, where are the CTRL-ALT-DEL buttons?" I'm confident that Panny, as Barry G put it, will release it when they get it just right. Their reputation is at stake, and with all they have invested in the HVX200 to date, I don't think they will take any chances and risk screwing up.

Plus, I think the camera is probably already ready now! The continuing talks about being just about ready is just to wet out appetites with a strong dose of anticipation, wrapped in a bundle of hype.

Maybe some cut it that close. There has to be time set aside for duplication and distribution to the theatres. I know quite a few films are being worked right up to the delivery deadline. I think studios have a deadline for when the final cut has to be delivered for replication, but a few weeks until the premiere?

I suppose it's possible it only takes a few weeks to print and ship 35 prints though.

Many many many features dont finish the sound mix and minor tweaks before a few weeks.

As for the HVX.. its not like they are sitting around with nothing ready to go.. you can be that all the parts are ready to be assembled as soon as the software is golden.. and that final assembly doesnt take long to do.

Not saying that they are doing nothing. But how much time do you think it take to finish manufacturing, packing, and shipping all those tens of thousands of delicious HVX to be ready for December 29th. That is if they truly intend on keeping this deadline!
