GH5 Fixed voltage cable and v mount batteries, universal rig

Hello,

I'm looking into getting a universal rig which would eventually include a VCT shoulder plate, handles, and v mount batteries so I can own a smaller camera and rent higher end cameras when needed that would fit and be powered by the same rig.

I'm currently looking into v mount batteries to power my gh5 and small hd focus, as well as using the gh5 xlr unit with phantom power.

Do I need a d-tap to gh5 battery that has regulated power/voltage converter? I don't want to brick the camera. A lot of the dtap to dummy batteries have bad reviews.
This one seems to be decent: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1448811-REG/lanparte_blf19p_d_d_tap_blf19_fixed_voltage.html

Would I need a similar cable with a voltage converter to power the smallhd focus, or would a regular cable like this be fine for the sony dummy battery:

Thank you for the help! I've not been able to find much info online so far.

Thanks. I'll look into those. My only concern with something like that is reliability on the cheaper models, but it would be more future proof. V mounts are a long term investment though ;D

I would get a dummy battery that takes 12v (14.4?) in as linked on BH, but no curly cable!

Having different voltage levels on a rig is asking for trouble.

Unify all your kit to work with 11-14 (or whatever the exact Dtap standard is)

But then you get a lot of heat inside the camera from the regulator. Might not be an issue for the GH5(s), but for some of the already heat prone cameras this might be too much.

Either way you can get power, but I think I would go for the 8.4v connection. Or at least check the amount of heat when recording the most demanding material. And then check heat on the adapter.

I tried locating it for you but could not...I use an Indypro GH5 Dummy battery adapter to DTap....the cable is straight but the important aspect in the one I chose, is that the regulator is not inside the Dummy adapter, but in line so it remains outside the camera body....the cable needs some wrangling at 30 inches but easily managed with Velcro tie offs. I memory serves I bought it from B&H, but I think Hot Rod Camera carries the same adapter now.

Here it is:

The heat thing is a valid point of course - and the inline thing a good concept.

My general desire rigging different cameras monitors and lights is to do it all off one set of standardised cables where and have it 'assistant proof' - one needs to assume the critical cable or power source has been broken and be able to rig it a second way and keep it working.

Thats why I 'liked' the GH4 yagh box which has the XLR 4pin power in.

I use a Case Relay system by Tether Tools with my GH5's and they do have a D-Tap adapter too. Allows you to change the battery without stopping recording which is really useful.
