fisheye or super wide angle?

Hey guys,

I just got the camera and a tamron 17-50 2.8 but was really wanting something wider. I know there's the tokina 11-16 but it seems to be out of stock everywhere and I was hoping for something that would transition into fullframe if and when they update the 5d.

Any suggestions? Also...I'm assuming that a 15mm fisheye on a crop camera would pretty much defeat the purpose of using a fisheye in the first place if the distorted parts are cropped out. Any suggestions on that or any comparisons between on full frame and crop?

Thanks!

Personally I much prefer a rectilinear lens to a fisheye. I got sigma's 14mm and I love it. Plus it's compatible with full frame cameras.

Stephen thanks! that 8mm seems good. Dvollrath, are you talking about the sigma 14mm 3.5?

I found them used for a good price so that seems like a possibility.

The Peleng 8mm should just cover the 7D frame.

Hmmm, I should dig mine out and try it...

I never thought about that...I know it vignettes with the 5d but I figure with the 7d it should be fine right? Barry if you could do that I'd be grateful. Thanks!

Well, I just tried it... and it does vignette in the corners. Not horrifically bad, but it's definitely there. Rats.

nuts! that would have been great. Oh well. forever on the search. If anyone knows of any <17mm primes out there let's hear it!

Nick,
Honestly speaking I just had to try the Samyang 85 1.4 for myself and my findings are...
If the "name" is not a problem for you try this lens. No other lens in this price range is as fast has a nice bokeh, does not breath when changing focus and the build quality is very good.

Just try it for your self.

Thanks.

Johnnie

I'm looking at the vivitar 85 and the canon 85 1.8...Not sure.

By the way...the vivitar lenses here have red rings
