First wedding shooting with a 60D

My cousin wants me to film her wedding this weekend, just the actual ceremony though. I have had my 60D for about a month now, shooting only action sports. I have never done a wedding but she just wants me to do it for her. I have read that shooting video on DSLRs you can only record up to 12 minutes or so? The ceremony is most likely alot longer than that, I dont want to be recording and halfway through it shuts off and there is no footage. I would appreciate any advice or some work arounds.

You're going to need a second shooter/camera. If you're shooting in HD, you're only going to get about 12 minute clips, so you need another camera to fill in the gaps. Either use a camcorder to hit a wide shot, or get a second shooter with a DSLR to match footage with. Also try for external audio if you can so you don't have to worry about holes in the audio in addition to video.

Take it from a seasoned veteran when it comes to wedding cinematography and convince your cousin that recording the entire ceremony is not only boring, but unnecessary. Tell her that you will provide a highlight reel of the day with nat sound of the vows and "I Do's." That's it! That's all you need to cover, and it will be that much more interesting to watch and more creative to shoot. She'll appreciate your professional opinion in the end. Do a quick search online for wedding cinematographers and pay special attention to those on the Gold Coast in Australia. World class talent out there. None of them ever shoot the entire ceremony because that's traditional videography crap! If she absolutely must have the entire ceremony recorded, setup a tripod and camera in the back and hit record before the ceremony starts. This will allow you to roam around with your 60D getting the more "creative" shots that people will actually remember.
